Description

Ingredients: Sardines (Sardinus pilchardus), olive oil, chili peppers, salt.

The terms “spiced” and “spicy” are used pretty much interchangeably in the tinned fish world, to mean two different things: with a hot pepper (or hot pepper flavor), and with cloves/bay/carrot/hot pepper. There are many examples of both terms being used to mean both things.

We are so frustrated by how widespread this confusing inconsistent usage is that we’ve gone through our entire product line to correct the incorrect ones such that our description of “spiced” or “spicy” will always indicate which it really is, regardless of the packaging. “Spicy” = with hot pepper flavor. “Spiced” = with the cloves/bay/carrot/hot pepper flavors.

This is the first time the Parodi deenz that I have had were slightly on the mushy side: with that said they were a quality can and the spiciest sardines I have eaten to date. They were delicious and I give them a 4.5!

Upon first opening a tin of these Angelo Parodi spicy sardines I was greeted with a feast for the eyes: three plump sardines with mostly undisturbed smooth and shiny silver skin, swimming in a red/orange pool of oil.

These have a good, semi-firm texture with a slight hint of pepper, similar, though maybe a touch milder than a Nuri spiced sardine. These are delicious on their own, though have enough flavor and texture to hold up to an array of delivery devices (crackers, bread, toast, rice, noodles) and and array of condiments. I think these could easily fit into a regular rotation of good quality and reasonably priced sardines.

Viva Italia! I haven’t had this offering from Angelo Parodi, but I expected some delicious spicy deens and that’s just what I got.

Size 4-5 deens. Pilchards. Great spice (remember they’re supposed to be spiced not spicy), and yet my tongue tingles after crushing this can.

Exactly what I expected from AP. Delightful. Meaty, clean, firm on the fork, and great from the tin or in a recipe. You know what you gotta do… Go getcha some!

I’m a little let down by these ‘dines after having a really positive experience with the boneless skinless. Their biggest flaw is that they are very salty. My
second gripe is the middling presentation. They are still a bit scaly and scraped up. Conversely, the biggest upside, is the spicy oil they’ve absorbed. Flavorful and definitely
has a kick. Texturally they’re flaky and soft but definitely not mushy. If you’re looking for firm ‘dines with a chew, these are not them. Not a bad sardine by any means!

4 stars, a perfect representation of “very good.” Ideal texture – not too firm, not too soft, zero dryness. Didn’t fall apart easily when picking up with chopsticks. The oil wasn’t overpowering and let the sardine flavor come through.

On the spice scale, I’d say it’s about a 2 out of 5 … enough to be noticed and to provide some nuance. I haven’t had the Nuri spiced (in olive oil) to directly compare them to, but they’re a half step hotter than Matiz spicy sardines. Salt levels & seasoning was pretty much exactly what I was looking for, I didn’t need/want to add a thing to the tin.

For me, these will be an occasional rebuy for when I want a spicier sardine, at least in a 50/50 split with Matiz spicy. Absolutely hits the mark, especially at $2 cheaper than Nuri spiced. Recommended!

My tin had 4 plump and firm sardines, two peppers almost as long as the fish themselves., and a bright orange oil inside.

The fish were easily removed from the tin intact and I served them over warm rice. The flavor of the spice was great with a moderate level of heat that was definitely present but not overpowering. For the price, this is a tin I will definitely be stocking up on in the future.!

This tin is in every one of my orders from RTG. Its an affordable, tasty, and has been incredibly consistent. Even though I noticed that the price per tin has gone up, I will continue to buy at least 2 tins in each of my orders. Theyre just a great bang-for-your-buck sardine! Give em a try!

Nice sardines! 5 firm fish, and 2 large (but mild) peppers in the can provided a good lunch experience over rice. Not as spicious (or spicy) as the Nuri (which I prefer), but a good value tin. Will probably buy again as a less expensive alternative to Nuri.

Nicely spiced. Nothing really stood out for me on this tin. I would say this is like a classic spiced tin with not much too it.

I like the bright yellow tin. It has a quirky design with a Roman Eagle flanked by four medallions/awards of dubious significance. The tin feels formidable and the tab takes a firm tug to open it. It gives the impression that whatever is inside must be worth the extra effort. Inside the stylistic tin there are four intact, relatively firm, medium/large sized pilchards bathing in a sunset hued olive oil infused with chili peppers. The oil’s not hot, but it does have a nice slight afterburn. It seems of good quality, certainly suitable for making a flavorful puttanesca sauce.

Along with the fish and oil, there are two large bright red chilis that look promising, but unfortunately they’re flavorless with no heat whatsoever. Their skin was dry and tough, rendering them essentially inedible. The fish are of good quality however. They’re sightly salty and delicious; I can see how they have their admirers. And, at the current price, these sardines are a good value.

    4.3 fish out of five ???????????????? 3/10

My first time trying this brand. Honestly was a tad disappointed. Perhaps it was my tin, but these were pretty mushy. I had trouble keeping them in larger pieces to eat, much less taking one out of the tin whole. Other than the slightly off-putting texture, the flavor was very mild. Not much salt in my tin, little heat on the back end. Overall a decent value but not my favorite.

This a great every day tin and is worth the price. It’s nice that the spice refers to the heat, not the “spices” which I don’t typically enjoy. The heat is present but not overwhelming – I think I like the Pollastrini spicy ones more because they are HOT, but these are great quality and tasty and a little hot sauce brings the spice level up to where I’d like

This will be a repeat RTG order for me. For the price point, this is one that I will enjoy as an ‘everyday value sardines’ (other tin in this category include the Nuri and Pollastrini sardines). One thing I was surprised with is the lack of heat from this tin… perhaps it was how I prepped the fish. I warmed the sardine oil in a pan, sauteed some onions, and then added an equal dash of soy sauce and vinegar. Once the sauce was warmed up and uniform, I then added the sardines in the pan. Nom nom nom. Next time I will try without the soy/vinegar combo to see if I can recognize the heat from the can.

These were a bit of a bummer – they were very salty, and not exactly spicy. They’re spiced, but very little heat. The scales that stick to the roof of your mouth, which was unpleasant. The texture was nice, any maybe added to rice or such would take them up a notch, and mellow the salt. I’ll stick to the spicy Nuri’s.

This was a solid tin of ’dines. Great texture, nice flavors. Not spicy, but an extra layer of flavor, especially the fish next to the pepper. Can’t argue with the price for these. Give em a go.

Quality fish, a bit bland (the spice is hidden). Medium-firm fish, a little soft.
