I just don’t like tinned tuna I guess. Got this tin as an experiment to see if I might like tinned tuna if it was higher quality than the ultra low-end stuff at my grocery store. My gf thought it was good; she likes tinned tuna and we both agreed it was definitely higher quality and more enjoyable than anything we’ve had from like Chicken of The Sea or Starkist or whatever, as expected. I would 100% choose this over those store brands, but I think tuna just isn’t my jam when it comes to tins. I like mackerel, mussels/oysters/clams, squid, octopus, anchovies, sprats . . . just not tuna so far. Might give Dan a chance to pick a tuna tin for me with my next order just to be extra sure. But anyways, if you like tinned tuna, you’ll probably enjoy this tin!

I got this beautiful Arroyabe tin as part of a package deal with Anna Hezel’s book. I usually buy Wild Planet skipjack or albacore, but I prefer skipjack. It’s definitely better than either of those. The tuna is a thin but wide cross-section (a steak?), which I think helped in getting the olive oil to penetrate the fish better than in grocery store brands. I used the contents to make a tuna salad with lots of dill, capers, and Kewpie mayonnaise. I also used a couple of larger flakes to garnish the yolks of some halved hard boiled eggs. Good stuff, but not life changing. If you like albacore already, this would be a nice upgrade, but if you are not already an albacore lover, I don’t think this tin would change your mind.

Excellent tuna. Not dry, great flavor, nice chunks, tasty oil. We ate it straight from the tin with just a bit of lemon/salt/pepper or pickled red onions on bread and it was excellent. We have tried a lot of albacores and this is a favorite! Will definitely be buying this again.

I got this in the bundle with Anna Hezel’s Tinned Fish cook book and didn’t think much of it because tuna is tuna, right? Well turns out I was wrong. This is so much better than any grocery store tuna I’ve ever had. I didn’t know that tuna didn’t have to buy dry, or that it could be so savory. I’m not sure if I’ll be buying another can in the near future but this has certainly changed what I think tuna can be.
