The first time I ever had cod liver I started texting all of my oldest friends to find out which of them knew how great it is and didn’t tell me.

Belveder’s canned cod liver pairs perfectly with champagne, or with the champagne of beers. Definitely serve with your favorite mustard and/or some pickled veggies (we highly recommend pickled shallots if you can get them or better yet make them). Decadent. Luxurious. Crazy inexpensive.

    While the smell is moderately fishy, this is from the oil which by nature is not as processed in the way cod liver oil that is sold by itself is to remove the fishy taste/smell as well as many of the beneficial nutrients. In addition to the tin holding a large amount of oil which can be used to make a dressing, cook eggs in or makes a great addition to homemade savory cracker or quick bread recipes, there is a nice variety of smaller and LARGE liver pieces. I enjoy the different sizes as squishing them onto salads, squash and bread provides a different experience with each varying amount of buttery smooth liver combining with the other ingredients. These are a bit on the salty side however it is nice that whatever you pair them with need not be seasoned and then it balances out well. Heating these in a pan by themselves or with butter also results in a different texture and wonderful taste. Truly a fun tin to experiment with and goes a long way.
