Ekone Oyster Company Lemon Pepper Smoked Oysters

$13.00

Pacific Oysters are grown on our farms in Willapa Bay located on the coast of Washington State. They are grown using the long-line method to promote the highest quality oyster, and ensure they are always free of sand and grit. They are harvested fresh then brought to our Ekone cannery in Bay Center, WA, where the oysters are steamed and opened, then brined in small batches. The brined oysters are then placed meticulously on stainless steel racks and smoked using maple chips. We added a subtle lemon pepper spice blend to the original flavor. Perfect for those who like a little tang!

Each 3 ounce can is made with fresh ingredients. They are also shelf stable for up to four years!

I have to admit that compared to tinned sardines and mackerel, I’m a bit of a tinned oyster novice. This was one of a few oyster tins that I tried recently that were just perfect, super delicious, and had me wanting for more.

Cracking this tin open presents beautiful smoky aroma with a sharp black pepper note. Picking one of these mottled lumps with some chopsticks or a fork show that they are firm, holding whatever misshapen form they gained in the smokehouse, the tin, or both. Popping one in your mouth presents a flavor brings that smoky and pepper aroma to life, with a bit of earthiness and mineral notes mixed in. The texture rounds out the experience, as these have a firm, meaty bite to them.

These are super delicious and a great treat. If you like tinned oysters, you’ll love these. If you haven’t tried tinned oysters, these are a great introduction.

If you like smoked oysters or even *think* you might, you must try an Ekone tin. While I do prefer the habanero version over lemon pepper, this tin is still very very good. I’d have loved a little bit more lemon and a little bit more seasoning overall, but the milder flavor makes this a very approachable tin for someone new to the scene. I added some additional pepper and Maldon salt, popped these on a few almond/wheat crackers … truly, truly enjoyable.

If you’re unsure about the genre or about the habanero variety then these are an ideal first tin to see if you like smoked oysters. Before trying Ekone, I’d never thought I was an oyster guy but this brand changed it all for me. Ekone is something special and worth the splurge.

I love raw oysters. I have not always enjoyed cooked oysters so I was wary going into this experience.

They were delicious. I had nothing to fear and neither do you. There was a pronounced smokey flavor. I would have liked it if the lemon pepper flavor was a bit more pronounced. I haven’t tried the plain ‘smoked’ flavor but I imagine they would be very similar.

Coming from the land of sardines, these were a bit dry. Not unpleasantly dry but there wasn’t much oil in the tin.

I ate these on ritz crackers and enjoyed every bite. The buttery ritz added some fat to the less oily oysters. I will be enthusiastically ordering these again.

My first time trying out smoked oysters! I will say that the flavor of the lemon pepper seasoning is strong (for me), but it doesn’t hide the brininess of the oysters themselves. I ate them cold with barbecue chips, which I think was my downfall, because the flavors were too competing with each other.

Next time, I will try them warmed up and with a more neutral accompaniment like crackers.

This is my favorite can to order from RTG. Perfect mix of smoky, salty and tender seafood. Would eat this every day straight out of the can if I could.

I’m a huge oyster fan. Uni, oysters, salmon are tops for me. I buy a shuck oysters at home weekly. These were amazing and if you want to convert an oyster hater there are two ways I now have in my arsenal. Acme oyster house chargrilled oysters and these.

First time having tinned oysters. Straight from the can. Really satisfying firmness. Seasoning is a very nice compliment. Rich plump bites.

I really wanted to like these, but they were a little too fishy for me. They had a great texture and I would probably try them again. 6/10.

Taylor Shellfish! That’s a name i recognize, i’ve been to their restaurant a couple of times and loved them. Big fan of raw and fried oysters, so i thought i was going to really love these, but they ended up being a bit too homogenous in texture and peppery in flavor. While there’s plenty of that good ocean taste you want from an oyster, I dont think i would try them again plain or on a cracker. They may be good in a smoked oyster dip or some application like that, so if i ever end up with another tin that’s the plan.

This was my first time trying smoked tinned oysters. These were surprisingly large oysters with a soft texture. The smoke flavor was quite strong and the lemon pepper (emphasis on pepper) I think contributed to the strong flavor of these oysters. I was hopeful that I would love these but ultimately they are not for me. I believe with such a rich flavor I would try them again paired in a different setting that would balance the flavors more, as with this tin I tried them straight up with crackers.

I loved this tin. Smoky yet bright from the lemon and heat from the pepper. I had never had smoked oysters before (I prefer raw) and this was a great discovery. The oysters are a bit fishy, which I enjoyed. These were excellent over thin slices of toasted baguette. Would buy again!

Oh, were these good & plenty! The seasoning was just a tad short on lemon; a quick squeeze took care of that. The pepper sufficed even for this pepperholic. Served with a side of peasant bread, the portion was hearty even after being divvied up. I don’t see as a replacement for my beloved raw oysters. They’re a delightful addition. Next round will be the plain smoked.
