Harvested from the Galician Rías, these mussels are an essential part of traditional conserva culture. The Rías are a series of estuaries along the northwest portion of Spain, where they say that the long inlets are the finger marks that God left when, after creating the world, he placed his hand there to rest.

    Espinaler has a well-deserved reputation for great tinned seafood, so I had very high hopes for this tin. Sadly, I was disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, it was great, particularly at this price point, but it did not blow me away the way I thought it might. Very nice aroma from the escabeche. Odd variation of sizes in the mussels, though all tasted very good, none of them chalky which is a common problem. Would definitely buy again. I’ve got a tin of their “Premium” mussels, about 3X the price, next in the queue, so let’s see how these compare to those.
