Loved the size, there’s something so rewarding about the meatiness of a gigantic mussel in escabeche. Texture was very good -maybe a touch short of excellent- and the mussels were of high quality with great flavor. The escabeche itself was fine but not quite as tangy and robust as I was hoping … I wasn’t really tempted to soak it all up with mini-toasts like I do with many (most?) other escabeche tins. If I had to recommend only one Espinaler tin of mussels, I’d rate the small mussels in spicy escabeche over this one. With that said, this still a very good tin overall that won’t disappoint, especially if you love really big mussels.
