Lives up to expectations with notable acidity and flavor from the lemon, bringing brightness that’s not often found in a ‘sardines in oil’ tin. If you find yourself longing for more than just a hint of lemon in a tin (looking at you, Matiz with “natural lemon essence”), look no further. It’s not over the top but it’s there without having to search for it. You even get a lemon slice or two under the fish, to divvy up amongst your bites.

Fish quality is typical Ferrigno – above average overall with excellent texture and moisture. You should be aware, however, that Ferrigno sardines generally are a bit scaly. For me, a few scales doesn’t detract from all of the other overwhelming positives but your mileage may vary. The mix-ins on this tin weren’t as plentiful as most Ferrigno artwork tins, but that’s to be expected since these ingredients are smaller.

All in all, these take my top “sardines in lemon” honors at the moment. If you really want lemon flavor, these are better than Ati Manel in lemon (these are less expensive than Ati Manel too) and much better than Matiz’s lemon tin. I wasn’t left wanting for anything here … it’s a very good tin. Recommended.

Fantastic sardines! I was very pleasantly surprised to find actual slices of lemon in the tin, and you can definitely taste the improvement over other varieties of lemon sardines without. There was of course also chopped parsley and garlic, but the primary flavor was (after the sardines) the lemon. My can had three fish, but they were quite large and filled the tin. The fish weren’t unnecessarily beat up and still appeared quite silvery, and they had a fairly firm texture. The oil in the tin was less … oily? than that of some sardines–probably due to water from the lemon–and was therefore very tasty on it’s on. The lemon slices were also very enjoyable, having softened and soaked up all the other flavors in the tin.

Definitely a tin I will have again!

This was a good tin. I always have really high expectations of Ferrigno tins. I think this tin delivered, but I wasn’t enamored with it like my favorite Ferrigno tins (escabeche, pork and liver sausage). First, the fish. Three huge sardines filling up the entire tin. The skin was a bit beat up and there was noticeable scaliness (which doesn’t bother me, but is worth noting) compared to other Ferrigno offerings. The texture was slightly dry, but I attribute this to the lemon content in the tin. Flavor was as good as I’ve come to expect from any Ferrigno tin. Which is to say, pretty darn good. I prefer sardines to be a bit more moist than what this tin offered.

The main event for these Ferrigno artwork tins are the add-ins. This did not disappoint. There was an actual whole radial slice of lemon in the tin (cut in half). Tons of garlic and parsley. Fantastic quality oil. The flavor from this was so good I had to find other things to soak it up and enjoy every last drop. Lemony without being overpowering. Garlic and parsley mild but present. If I’m to nitpick, it was a touch under-seasoned. I added some flaky salt and I recommend that you do too. When I’m looking for a lemon tin to keep around, it’s gonna be this one. Not quite good enough to be a “purchase every time”, but it will definitely be in the rotation.

I’m having so much fun trying out a bunch of fish. I can see these sardines as a pantry staple and I’ll be adding them to each order.

Texture: firm enough to be picked up with chopsticks, but still relatively tender and moist.

Flavor: the sardines were clearly canned very fresh, as there’s the beautiful taste of seafood without unpleasant fishiness. The lemon gave the sardines an appetizing brightness, with the garlic and parsley being somewhat muted in the background.

Appearance: beautiful fish, but scaly as hell! I saw them mentioned in the other reviews and thought, “How bad can it be?” We’re talking loads. Clumps. The saving grace is that they’ve been softened so much by the whole cooking and canning process that you can’t tell when you’re eating them. It’s not enough to deter me from an otherwise solid sardine.

Such a high quality tin! The freshness of the ingredients in this tin coupled with the freshness of the fish was amazing. High quality and the sardines were very meaty and bright. I ate some of this right out of the tin and paired some with a cracker and soft brie cheese. Honestly, I think it’s best straight from the tin!

This was a really nice tin of lemon sardines! First of all you get actual lemon slices which helps to infuse the flavor over time. The garlic and parsley were relegated as background notes, they could have been boosted a bit. Received three sardines, they were fresh without any noticeable fishiness and the texture was firm. As others mentioned, I got quite a few scales but were soft enough to not be a distraction.
I can see this being a go-to tin whenever I really want lemon-infused sardines.

Great tin. 3 large sardines and a slice of lemon. Medium texture, not firm or mushy or dry. Just right. Great lemon flavor, not overpowering. Was a fan favorite on a tin board with people who don’t really eat tinned fish, would keep on hand! Also adorable tin.

Great tin, especially at the price point. Kinda afraid they’ll go up lol. The extra seasonings complimented the fish very well and the fish themselves were high quality and delicious.
Loved them on some hot rice, though I imagine they’d be great with some bread as well.
