Ferrigno La Bonne Mer Sardines à la Camarguaise (w/ Chorizo sausage)

Sardines packed in sunflower oil with chorizo. Do we need to say “Warning, contains meat”? It’s chorizo. That’s sausage. That’s meat. Don’t eat these if you are pescatarian.

This was my second tin from Ferrigno, both have been very good and I will continue to explore thier somewhat unusual flavor combinations. The sardines were pretty fantastic if a little soft. The only reason I didn’t give this 5 stars is that the chorizo wasn’t as prominent a flavor as I would have liked, it was julienned into the can and flavored the oil nicely, on its own was just good sausage. Did I mention that the fish was delish, so maybe I’m overthinking the role of the chorizo it is a tin of fish after all.

Fun tin, solid but not a game-changer. Totally agree with Odinn that the chorizo flavor was not front and center, it was more of a background note. I’m not sure I’d have been able to guess what it was in a blind taste test?

A lot of little chorizo batons so you could get some in every bite. Great quality of sardines as you’d expect from Ferrigno (although I noticed a few more scales on this one, if that bothers you). But honestly … not that much sausage flavor and the chorizo didn’t take this to any new plane of existence. It’s a 3.5 star tin for me, good enough to recommend for something new but also probably not something I’ll rebuy. It’s totally fine but you should get the liver sausage one instead if you want to buy just a single tin for a really unique meat+sardine experience.

These were ok. Middle of the road, for me. Upon opening the tin, the sardines looked a bit beat up. There were 4 sizable fish with many tears in the otherwise silvery skin. There were a fair few scales in the batch. Upon extracting the fish (they were quite firm), the underside of each was perfectly intact. And underneath them were many chunks of Spanish chorizo. Nice. The disappointment started with the chorizo. Tough and not particularly flavorful. I thought perhaps they had given their flavor up to the oil. Not so; the oil tastes very mildly of chorizo. Just a hint. The sardines themselves were firm and a bit dry. The flavor was just ok. The summary of the flavor is “I’m eating a dry-ish sardine with a hint of something”. I didn’t hate these, but I probably won’t purchase again.

These were pretty good! I concur with other reviewers that the chorizo did more to flavor the oil then the sardines themselves, but this is a tinned fish product, so it makes sense that the tinned fish was front and center. The sardines themselves were very nice in both taste and texture, but the fish did not pick up a lot of the chorizo flavor (again, it was mostly in the oil). Served it on top of some warm polenta, and it was delicious. I’d probably get it again eventually, but there are other products I want to try first.

These were solid – I agree with the other reviewers in that the chorizo takes more of a background role here. The chorizo wasn’t particularly flavorful, but the sardines had great texture. The Camarguaise sauce was flavorful and paired very well with fresh bread. Overall, not my favorite sardine product, but very glad that I tried after hearing so much about these.

I had been a bit leery about this one as I wasn’t sure how sausage would mix with sardines. Peeled it open to see four roughed up fish in some very orange oil. The bits of chorizo were on the bottom of the tin and seemed to be the only seasoning inside. As it turns out, chorizo is an excellent herb to accompany fish. The fish & the oil were well seasoned from the sausage with flavors of paprika, garlic, & salt. The fish themselves were meaty and held together nicely. An all-around solid tasting tin that I would gladly eat again.

While I enjoyed them straight out of the tin, I think this is one that would benefit from being heated up. If I get this again, I will heat the chorizo & oil up a bit, add the deens until they are warm and serve it all over steamed rice. Nothing that one couldn’t put together on their own, but this is kinda like the sardine version of those convenient tuna flavor pouches.

I liked the look of the tin. The art for their tins is super funny. Especially the one where a sardine is speeding away in a convertible.
As far as the fish went, I honestly didn’t notice anything chorizo-y about it. Maybe if I had dipped some bread in the oil the taste would have come across but I didn’t pick up chorizo flavor on the fish.

We thought these were pretty good. There was a good amount of chorizo in the tin, but, as everyone has stated ad nauseam, the chorizo doesn’t add as much flavor as you might think. It was still delicious and we’re excited to try other tins from this brand. But if you’re looking for a strong chorizo flavor, you’re not going to get that from these sardines.

This tin was solid as far as sardines go but the chorizo flavor is not very strong at all, almost undetectable, even though there are many bites of chorizo in the tin which provided a nice textural contrast to the tender fish. After the first few bites, I dusted a pinch of smoked paprika over the rest and thought it added some flair to the fish quite nicely.

Four sardines in a red hued oil. Smells a little different than a plain tin, but not much. Fish was firm and meaty, flaky, great texture. Good quality sardines with a few scales. Bits of chorizo but no real sausage or spiced or chorizo flavor. Pretty good tin all around although I’d appreciate them dialing up the chorizo flavor a bit.

We eat a lot of chorizo in our house, both dried Spanish and fresh Mexican. I wish this tin had more of the flavor from the sausage. The fish were good. I have never had a problem with the Ferrigno brand, but sometimes the preparation of the sauce is a little lacking.
