This was my first of the Ferrigno sardines, and I am a bit of a novice with sardines in general. I thought the flavor of these were good, the spines soft, but they were more reminiscent of sardines in tomato sauce than fish in ratatouille. I found them to be a bit dry, as is often the case with sardines in tomato sauce, and they benefitted from the addition of salt and red wine vinegar. I enjoyed them in my bento lunch (so room temperature) with rice, green lentils, pickled red onions, arugula, and parsley.

These were included as an extra throw-in by Dan from an order I made a few weeks ago. I have always been apprehensive to try sardines in tomato sauce because the combination struck me as odd, especially since I usually have these as a snack at room temperature.

These were extremely tasty though! A bit dry but the flavor and the the thick texture of the sauce made up for it. The sauce is the real star here, with a sweet tomato flavor but also the clear flavor of peppers and onions with chunks of the vegetables included as well. The sardines themselves were mild but the sauce was amazing, and I made sure to scrape every last drop with bread even after the sardines were all gone. I will definitely be buying these again and trying out other tomato sauce dines, hopefully I didn’t find the best these flavor of tinned fish have to offer!

Exactly what I’ve come to expect in a Ferrigno artwork tin. Very good fish quality, there might be no company more consistent with sardine texture across so many differently flavored tins than Ferrigno. The sardines in these artwork tins are never dry, they’re always the ideal firmness no matter what version you’re eating. The tomato sauce is above average and there are TONS of vegetables underneath that have enough integrity that you still can tell which veggie you’re eating. I wanted just a few flakes of Maldon on top before enjoying it directly out of the tin with a spoon (so as to get every last bit).

Absolutely a bargain at this price. If you enjoy sardines in tomato sauce, you won’t be disappointed by anything here. It’ll go immediately into my Ferrigno artwork tin rotation and be reordered alongside other favorites like Niçoise, Tapenade, Citron Confit.

This tin did not disappoint. I’m a huge fan of Ferrigno artwork tins and you can add this tin to their list of awesomeness. The sardines (3 large) were beautifully packed in the tin. Bright silver skin with all empty space filled with tomato sauce. The sardines had a fantastic texture and flavor, a near-constant with all Ferrigno tins. The tomato sauce was also pretty tasty. The real winner here, as usual with Ferrigno artwork tins, is the mass of ratatouille vegetables hiding underneath the sardines. If you subtracted the add-ins, you could probably fit an extra sardine or two in the tin. THAT’S how much vegetables are in this tin. While the vegetables are all quite soft, they definitely add flavor to the party. I had planned to add some hot sauce to this but ended up eating it straight from the tin unadorned, scooping up every last bit of sauce. Simply fantastic. As with all Ferrigno artwork tins, this is an easy recommend. You’ll love it.

Very much enjoyed this tin of sardines! Quality and texture of the fish itself was great—not mushy at all. The sauce had excellent flavor and we loved the bits of vegetables as well. Would be excellent tossed with some pasta or on some crusty bread. Will be re-purchasing.

I was very pleased with this tin! I like the more savory tomato sauces a lot more than the sweeter tomato sauces, and I like tins with chunky bits of veggies (or whatever happens to be packed in it). This tin delivered on both counts! Ferrigno can be a bit unpredictable on chunkiness; some of their varieties have smoother sauces, and some not. Fortunately, this one has large pieces of peppers, onions, & other vegetables. And even better, it actually tasted like ratatouille!

The sardines were pretty standard for Ferrigno: firmer, flaky, and quite good. I don’t remember how many were in the tin, but it was probably 4.

This is my first experience with a tin of French sardines, I am so glad it was this one! Cracking the tin I was presented with tomato and onion aromas along with a mild fish essence. Three large rustic looking sardines were packed tightly but came out easily with a fork. The flesh was firm, no mush to speak of. The vegetables really elevated this tin, first it seemed like a typical sardine in tomato sauce but then the peppers, onion and squash flavors showed up. There was enough of the veggies and sauce to really cover the sardines as I placed them on toast. I definitely will purchase this again in the future.

The fish were great. This particular tin needed more rat. Just not enough of the veg to be a good ratatouille in this tin.
