4.25 stars! A definite notch above a standard tin of sardines in tomato sauce. Definitely worth a purchase, especially if you want/need a little less salt in your diet. I started with chopsticks on these and quickly realized that I needed a pinch of flaky salt and a spoon instead. The sauce is slightly underseasoned but still had some impressive depth of flavor, it’s darn good. I finished it all for sure. Fish quality was in the ‘very good’ range and the filets were not dry unlike most of the tomato’d sardines that you might have tried.
I liked these a little more than the spicy Pollastrini di Anzio … liked these a LOT more than Bon Appetit in Hot Tomato … but not *quite* as much as Nuri spiced in tomato sauce. With that said, I think they just might be worthy of a direct side-by-side taste test with Nuri regular in tomato sauce (which I haven’t tried yet). After adding a tiny bit more salt, these are truly excellent.
I continue to be impressed by the overall quality of Ferrigno. Time to get more of their tins!
