Bravo Ferrigno, the olive oil really elevated this tin in a way that caught me off guard. The oil was pure, bright, fruity, making this a standout tin for those lunches when you want simplicity and not any additional flavors. I’ve come to expect greatness out of all of the *flavored* artwork tins, but didn’t really know what I’d get here without the Ferrigno mix’ins that I know and love. Turns out, they gave us something excellent.

Texture was medium-firm, flake was both present and pleasant, moisture was a medium as well. The sardines were large, meaty, and satisfying. The tin was perhaps a touch light on salt levels but I didn’t even want to add any … the oil stood out in such a special way (and that’s not something I say often). I’m thrilled that this tin exists and urge any sardine purist to give it a try.

This is a solid tin of sardines, quite literally. The sardines were large and firm and filled the can with very little room for oil. The flavor was more reminiscent of yellowtail, which fun to engage in. I had them with crackers, and their firmness required a bit more effort to break up than I had anticipated. Knowing this I would reach for these when making a pasta dish or salad where I would cut them to the size I want before serving.

As always, Ferrigno brings the eye candy both inside and out. On this one, it appears to be a baker scolding a cat outside his shop with a mysterious woman waiting in the doorway. I don’t know if this is a tip of the tin to anything in particular or not. A moderate fish funk upon opening with four very fat, almost triangular fish inside. Beautiful crinkly foil skin bellies with darker blue-gray tops. They held up nicely to extraction and the tails were all cut off which is typical for this size of deen. Very firm flesh with large spines with just a slightly chalky crunch. These are full flavored fish, befitting their size with just a touch of salt. The oil was quite lovely and provided a good balance for the fish. I saved some of it to drizzle over my toast and scrambled eggs the next day. While Ferrigno is known for their wide ranging flavors, this appears to be their plain Jane can. However, this was not a plain tin. Simple, yes. Plain, not in the least.
