KariKari Garlic Chili Crisp, 6 oz, Glass Jar

$16.00

We love chili crisp, and believe everyone should keep a few in rotation and always be open to trying others. And, like most things, the further away from a mass-produced product you move, and the closer to making it yourself from ingredients you farmed, the better you can expect it to get. The difference between this and other chili crisps is that this one is hotter, crispier, more garlicky, more tingly, and best of all, the the flavors are orchestrated into perfect balance. Lao Gan Ma is like watching a VHS of a movie you love. Some of the other chili crisps out there rise to DVD quality. This is the 4k Blu-ray of chili crisps.

The crunchy bits are peanuts, shallots, and garlic.

Yes, YES, YES! I’ve been exploring the world of chili crisp in recent months, trying to find that perfect umami flavor. Laoganma is always there, but if you look around you’ll find other recipes out there.

As a long time RTG customer it sure took me a while to find this particular gem, the KariKari brand featured here.

You can think of this review as an unboxing, because I opened up the jar and had it spread all over my Ramon Pena Sardinillas before the USPS truck left my driveway.

SPICY and you got your Sichuan peppercorn tingles in full effect, but the surprise was the crispy, crunchy, fried garlic chips floating right on top of the jar; so good.

It’s fantastic, my new favorite chili crisp, and I didn’t have to fly on a rocket ship to get it. Thanks Dan!

I’m a bit of a self-professed chili crisp/crunch aficionado and settled into a groove with a rotation of 2 -3 varieties. Upon opening this jar I knew I was looking at some next-level stuff. This chili crisp is full of an array of crispy bits in the form of garlic chips, peanuts, shallots, and spices – it’s hearty enough that you could be enticed to eat a spoonful of it by itself. The aroma had me salivating immediately. Atop some sardines and mixed in with some rice, it’s divine – spicy, garlic, pepper – the flavors are a perfect blend. My chili crisp rotation has been upended – there’s some jars I’m not sure I can even look at now.

Buy this!!! You will not regret it. I had added and removed from my cart a few times in recent months because I did not think it would be with the higher price vs. what I had consumed in the past. I was WRONG! The flavor and complexity and depth and texture and heat of this crunch is amazing and there is no going back to the basic brands I have had. This will be a regular purchase for me, fantastic!

I am a slightly newer in the chili crisp game. I was so intrigued by RTG’s description of these that I just HAD to take the dive and pony up $16 bones. The first thing I noticed when I opened the jar is the contents had settled and there were large slices of garlic floating at the top. Per the jars instructions and scooped from the bottom up and I had to try my first bite unadulterated by any other foods straight from the spoon. WOW. Great smoky, peppery, nutty flavor. Big difference between this and other jars was the spice. A building spice that slowly envelops your mouth and lips. Not hot enough to be uncomfortable, but JUST hot enough to transform what you put it on into a dish you do not want to put down.

I had looked at this on the RTG web site several times thinking that $16 is a pretty steep price for small jar of condiment.
That said I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a jar…WOW!
This stuff is the bomb! Deeply toasted and fried garlic infused in a rich oil, balanced with a perfect level of heat. The umami here is dialed up to 10. The garlic and heat linger on the palate. Don’t let the word heat scare you as it is buried in an avalanche of garlic and spices. I had it on homemade egg noodles and it took a bit of will power not to consume the jar in one sitting. The wife used some to make a batch of Thai Peanut Sauce, and it was her best to date. I opened this jar yesterday and it is already over half gone. Read the other reviews and if any of this sounds remotely like something you would like, buy a jar now. Unbelievably delicious!…Worth the price!

Kind of wish I had not gotten this because now I’m addicted to a $16 condiment that only lasted me two weeks! On the other hand, it makes everything extra delicious (with rice and porthos teriyaki sardines: amazing, on breakfast eggs, on blackberry ice cream, etc etc ) so it’s probably worth the $1.14 a day until I figure out how to make my own chili crisp.
