This was my first can of the King Oscar Royal Selections. Peeled off the lid to no smell of smoke, just a slightly fishy smell. The can was liberally covered with the herbs (basil, oregano, & garlic) and there were 17 very delicate sprats in the tin, each 2 to 3 inches long. They tasted delicious, a bit fishy but the basil & oregano absolutely came through. I added just a dash of sea salt to round it out. With the herbs, the oil is very flavorful, and I recommend that you save it to use for a vinaigrette or just to sauté some veggies for another dish. This would also make a quick and easy pâté.

Super tasty! I’m a big fan of pesto, so taking some key components of pesto and throwing it on some King Oscar sardines is a no brainer. These are perfect for someone who is averse to fishy flavors or squeamish about whole fish. The fish themselves are plump and silvery and are topped generously with the herb/seasoning mixture. LOTS of garlic coming through. Its nice to see that they aren’t afraid to have bold flavors where others might put a single lemon slice or tiny pepper in their tin. Not that there is anything wrong with that, this is just a nice change of pace. These would be perfect to incorporate into a recipe or slap on top of bread instead of eating them straight from the tin like I am.

These are legit af and I enjoyed this tin far better than the regular KO sardines at my local grocer. I found them very comparable to one of my other favorite tins, Riga Gold Smoked Riga Sprats. Delicious buttery little fishies perfect for snacking on right out of the tin with just some crackers. Loved dunking the crackers into the oil before loading up with the fish and herbs. Really great amount of herbs in there too. Very impressed with this tin, especially for the price, and will definitely get it again.

Two layer…ten fish on top layer, braided, topped with a good dose of herbs Nice presentation with about 10 fish on the bottom layer, small fish of about 2” length on average…Nice!…
The fish are on the softer end of the scale but are not mushy with a very good flavor…not “fishy” and the oil is of very good quality. You get oregano and basil, but the garlic is…What garlic?…Same as it ever was for me!…the light touch of salt in this tin really brings all the flavors together…very balanced.
This tin is very tasty! I ate up every drop of that delicious oil.
A very good tin…worth the upcharge from the regular Med style KO’s…
Had with Local Grown Red Tomatoes, Feta Cheese (Greece, PDO), some Roasted Garlic Triscuit’s and DS homemade Pickled Okra. That and two Vodka Tonic’s was dinner folks!

These sprats were super tender – I could very easily cut them in two with a pair of chopsticks, and some fell apart if I wasn’t careful removing them from the tin. They were packed in two criss-crossed layers and had a thick layer of crushed herbs over the top.

Super soft and fatty, with a smooth mellow flavor. I found that these weren’t as salty as some of the tinned fish I’ve had in the past, so I would recommend adding a sprinkle of sea salt or eating these with a salty potato chip. The fish and olive oil in the tin was super fragrant and aromatic due to the herbs, which they definitely did not skimp out on. The oregano and basil came through more than the garlic for me, but I also just really love garlic so that might just be a me problem!
