King Oscar Royal Selection Sardines in Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Red Bell Pepper, Garlic, Rosemary & Hot Chili

$5.00

8-22 sprats (brisling sardines) hand-packed with Spanish olive oil and red bell peppers, garlic, rosemary and hot chili. These are not so spicy that you need to worry about the heat, they’ve just got a little bit of zip to let you know you’re eating something really good. It’s our own preference that any tinned product with tomatoes (and/or onions) is best served at least slightly warmed. While these can be eaten straight from the tin, or with crackers or toasted bread, our favorite way to consume them is tossed with freshly cooked wide egg noodles, the heat from which will make everything taste better.

3.75 oz tin

These KO tins are really cementing my new bias towards sprats. These are rich little morsels that are just as nice to look at as they are to eat. The seasoning blend is a great addition, especially since these seem to be a bit more on the oily side (yes I know they’re in oil, but its more about that oily film left behind in my mouth). Some sweetness from the red pepper, a little herbaceous from the rosemary, a touch of tasty garlic stank, and the smallest kiss of chili to keep you on your toes. I can see myself enjoying these again on an an open faced everything bagel with whipped chive cream cheese. Perfect for a first timer.

These little sprats burst with flavor in my mouth when I bit into them, the spices compliment the flavor but don’t overpower it. These quite literally melt in your mouth with each bite, they’re delectable and these are really good to just eat out of the tin, even the oil is really good and flavorful with the spices and sardines sitting in them. I also love the presentation of the packaging, I like that you can see the sardines before you even open it up. Overall I would definitely recommend these to a beginner or someone who wants to try sardines but garnished in spices, I enjoyed these quite a bit.

This is one of those clear top tins. The fish are attractively packed in a weave pattern, with a teaspoon of goodies on top, immersed in a nice red tinged oil.
Beautiful small fish about 2” in length with the skin undamaged…Nice!
The flesh is very soft, they literally break in half as you remove them from the tin, and I would prefer more firmness. A mild fish flavor with some light spice flavors from the seasoning and oil…there is of course no hot chili flavor.
Overall this tin has a mild flavor profile, and with how soft the fish were this tin just didn’t excite me.
That said the KO quality shows and I was happy to try these.

These are my new KO favorite. The rosemary, garlic and chili add a nice flavor. Fish are a little soft, mild and seem to melt in the mouth. A good tin for a beginner. Good price.
