Sometimes simple is best. The ingredients of this tin are: cod liver and a pinch of salt. All of the oil in the tin is cod liver which has naturally expressed from the liver during the canning process.

Decadently rich.  Serve on toast points with cornichon and/or your favorite mustard and/or pickled vegetables to cut the richness.

    Super rich and luxurious. I prefer this to many land based pates/spreads. There is a slight bit of blandness here that really benefits from a touch of acid or heat. Mustard, Calabrian Chile paste, harissa, etc. it’s a nice blank canvas for you to tweak the way you want and I appreciate that about it. Nice served with thinly sliced pickled carrots on the side.

    My initial experience with tinned cod liver in its oil has left a lasting impression, as I find the texture, taste, and the quality of the oil to be exceptionally pleasing. Although the aroma bears a resemblance to tuna, the comparison ends there. The cod liver offers a smooth, buttery, and rich flavor profile that surpassed my expectations.

    Pairing it with a hard-boiled egg created a perfect balance of textures and flavors, but I can easily envision savoring this delicacy on its own, straight from the tin. Additionally, I couldn’t resist taking a generous sip of the oil, finding it equally delightful. My overall verdict: highly recommended.

    As a lover of cod liver this tin earns a middling score. Nothing wrong here, pieces are of somewhat similar size in contrast to other cod livers where a single piece may be most of the tin. More of a bland taste than other cod livers and salty enough to warrant mixing with another ingredient to balance it out. Makes a nice replacement for mayo in egg salad as Dan’s comment card noted. Adding another strong flavor profile also helps here such as truffle.
    Has a slightly firm texture for cod liver and spreads easily.
