Nissui Mackerel in Miso


Cut pieces of small whole mackerel in miso. Great warmed up and added to rice dishes, but also yummy straight from the tin, with a sprinkle of Barnacle Foods Alaskan Furikake Kelp Seasoning to add some garnish.

    4.5 stars overall. Big, big pieces of mackerel. Excellent texture, not too soft and not too firm. Plenty of mild-yet-flavorful sauce in the can and it wasn’t overwhelmingly in any way (like when I’ve used miso as a marinade before). Despite what *seemed* like a small can from the outside, the 4 pieces inside felt like a ton of fish. Tried to warm it gently by putting the can in a bowl of hot water for 3 minutes or so … next time I’d double that time as it wasn’t quite as warm as I’d hoped for when put over rice.

    Nevertheless, aaaabsolutely delicious. Even better than I expected and a certain rebuy at this price. I think I’d enjoy it even more over seaweed salad than rice.
