Peeled the lid to find four and a half slender fillets that held their shape as well. They also struck a good balance between looks and juicy, yet toothsome texture. If I had one criticism it would be that they are a bit light on the salt, but that is an easy fix. Overall, this is a delicious can of mackerel that would be good to use in a fancy, composed salad or to just chow down straight from the tin.

Two other thoughts on Nuri mackerel fillets. It’s been my experience that most canned mackerel fillets fall into two categories. 1) beautiful fillets that hold together well but are dry. 2) messy looking fillets that fall apart but are buttery and succulent. These Nuris seem to hit a very good balance between good looking fillets that hold together but still have a good bit of moisture.

This tin was my first time trying mackerel and they were lovely! The filets (we had four pieces, packed tightly in the tin) had a firm, meaty texture and a mild flavor. They were dense but not dry. Given the milder flavor, these still paired well with cheeses and dill pickles without becoming too salty.

Will definitely be trying more mackerel in the future, and I suspect that I will be returning to these filets from Nuri!

I’ve always been hesitant to try tinned mackerel b/c I always associated the fish with mackerel nigiri I’ve eaten at sushi bars. Those have a very strong flavor that I’m not a fan of. However, the fish in this tin were nothing like those nigiri.

The fish was very meaty, dense. The flavor was very mild and the texture smooth, slightly buttery. We ate them right out of the tin on small toasts with pickled peppers. These would be very easy to dress up with toppings. The oil was light and mild. The tin was tightly packed with firm pieces, most of them the length of the tin, exactly like the pictures above. I would buy these again. I’m also adding the spiced version to my fishlist. 🙂

Delicious tin that sits atop the mackerel charts for a reason. With the packaging and the way the filets look upon opening, you can easily tell this is a quality product. The olive oil was surprisingly very mild but the fish itself was wonderful.

I loved this tin! It was perfect for me. Upon opening, it looks very appealing with four filets nestled nicely inside with a generous amount of olive oil. The flavor is tasty with a mild olive oil and not at all fishy. The texture is smooth. I’ve had some really dense and chewy mackerel but this isn’t that at all, it’s just the right texture. Even the packaging feels elevated with how the paper is folded and the simple elegance of the design. I’ll definitely be buying this tin again, it’s delicious.
