Absolutely great tin here, very approachable and mild while still appealing to sardine aficionados. The fillets are absolutely beautiful, shimmery and organized with zero scales/blemishes. Texture was soft but not mushy, you could get a fillet completely intact with chopsticks if you are careful … if not, they just want to split halfway. Fish size was a perfect medium. Smoke? Pretty light, hard to notice BUT the flavor was enough to easily be more interesting than most all other sardines at this price point.

Ocean’s is sneakily providing huge value here. If you enjoy a softer, medium-size sprat/sardine, these are absolutely for you. Heck, they’re for you even if you think you don’t have that preference. A noticeable jump up in quality from grocery store options (e.g. King Oscar) … and honestly, a perfect change-of-pace tin for someone like myself who eats 5 tins a week.

This tin is good. Pretty average sized fish (for sprats). The fish in the tin are in great condition with shiny skin. There is a hint of smoke in the aroma, but that is about all the smoke you’ll get. I couldn’t pick up the flavor, other than a pleasantly complex taste. The fish were moist and soft, but not unpleasantly so. They were substantial enough to be extracted from the tin without falling apart. Not cons necessarily, but the tin could use more seasoning (easily fixed at home) and there is noticeable scaliness (not an issue for me). At this price, this is a solid option for a daily driver sprat. I’ve been on the lookout for a non-smoked sprat to keep around at a decent price. I think these are as good as I’m going to find.

This is a perfect starter tin for someone new to the tinned fish world – the fish are small, mild, and work well straight from the tin or simply prepared atop some toast, crackers, or rice. Regardless of your tinned fish experience, I think these would work well as a daily driver. My first thought was to compare them to King Oscar sprats, though in comparison I think these are bit larger and have a milder smoke flavor, and the fish in my tin seemed pretty moist, though I know this can vary.

These are very nice, especially for the price. Pretty and intact, soft and moist. Definitely worth keeping a few around.
