Sometimes there’s beauty in order, sometimes there’s beauty in chaos. When I opened up this tin of mussels and saw them neatly arranged in a circle with a lone mussel in the center, I saw order, I saw beauty.

Moving past the visual enticement, lean in and there’s a pleasant, mild, light vinegar and mineral aroma. Scoop one out and you’ll get a nice meaty bite – leading with light vinegar, unidentifiable herbs, finishing with a light minerally note, and maybe a hint of sweetness to the flesh. Perfect texture – not mushy, not grainy, not rubbery – just right.

I’m not a tinned mussel expert, but I’m comfortable saying that these are as good as I need tinned mussels to be, and I’d be happy to eat them any day. Some tinned mussels I’ve tried need accompaniments – chips, crackers, condiments, or to be an ingredient in a recipe – these are amazing straight from the tin.

I was pleasantly surprised with these mussels. Large and a little tart — I paired them with potato chips, mustard, and hot sauce. I will certainly keep coming back for this tin.

Simply stunning. I’ve never opened up a more beautiful tin of mussels. For some reason I expected these to be smaller but wow, they are a perfect size. Barely any blemish to be seen – if you know someone who would instantly turn away due to the appearance of a mussel, this is the tin to show off. It is probably as photogenic as any mussel has ever been.

Flavor, flavor. Excellent. I loved this escabeche sauce, it was the best version I’ve had yet. Some escabeche isn’t tangy enough, some is more like tomato sauce, but this? This escabeche was the perfect balance of vinegar, herbs, salt, and sweet. Texturally, the mussels in this tin were ever so slightly grainy but not enough to subtract anything from the overall experience. I ate most of this tin with the best quality potato chips that I could find and … honestly, it was everything I’d hoped it could be. This tin will open your eyes to a new world of mussels. It’s definitely worth the money and goes immediately into my top 4 mussels alongside Lemon Patagonia, Fangst no. 1, and Fangst no. 2.

Large 1 1/4” to 1 1/2” mussels…beautiful, unblemished and plump…in a rich looking reddish oil…there is a piece of bay leaf, a black peppercorn, and what appears to be slivers of garlic floating around the bottom of the tin…nice!
The mussels are perfectly done, very tender without being mushy…the oil is of high quality, seasoned with paprika (of course, It’s Spain!), with a very balanced amount of vinegar…Delicious!!
This was an excellent tin of mussels…a little pricey perhaps, but wow it delivers…big fat beautiful mussels, in an excellent escabeche sauce…great presentation, including a great looking box, with a printed tin inside…suitable for a gift or upscale seacuterie…
