The only spicy vintage sardine we’re aware of, which makes it automatically the best, right? All kidding aside, this is a wicked good tin of spicy sardines. Vintage 2021 so they’re ready to eat now, but these tinned sardines will improve over the coming years.

Description

Ingredients: sardines (Sardina pilchardus), olive oil, red pepper and salt.

The terms “spiced” and “spicy” are used pretty much interchangeably in the tinned fish world, to mean two different things: with a hot pepper (or hot pepper flavor), and with cloves/bay/carrot/hot pepper. There are many examples of both terms being used to mean both things.

We are so frustrated by how widespread this confusing inconsistent usage is that we’ve gone through our entire product line to correct the incorrect ones such that our description of “spiced” or “spicy” will always indicate which it really is, regardless of the packaging. “Spicy” = with hot pepper flavor. “Spiced” = with the cloves/bay/carrot/hot pepper flavors.

Delicious. Just the right amount spicy!

So good. We pulled these out before going out with some friends for the night (risky move, I know). Friends weren’t very familiar with tinned sardines beyond what can be found at a typical grocery store– I think these were a pleasant surprise! Though packed in oil, the meat itself isn’t oily. There’s a lot of meat, too, and the fish held together beautifully. We ate them straight out of the tin. The flavor of the fish and the amount of spice struck an absolutely perfect balance. I’ll be ordering these again to share… along with an extra, just for me.

These have a wonderfully firm texture, a deceptively building spice, and an amazing flavor. Worth the price — save for special occasions.

This is a seriously tasty tin. The fish is firm, with a delicious, mild flavor. No fishiness to speak of, just a very delicate flavor of the sea. I wasn’t able to discern much spice at all, but I am used to rather spicy foods. These were so mild they almost reminded me of tinned tuna, but much, much better, in a way I can’t quite put into words. It really felt like a luxurious experience, eating this tin, and I savored every bite!

This tin was amazing. My first vintage, and I am so glad I ordered. These are similar to their regular spicy sardines, but these fish are a touch saltier, lighter on the fishy taste, and so moist. Not a scale in sight, firm flaky meat. The spice level is great, more burn than the Nuri regular spiced, but not overpowering. Best tin I’ve ever had. Will be ordering again.

This was pretty spicy in my opinion. Flavor was ok, I wasn’t a huge fan, I actually preferred Nuri over these.

I wish I knew how great these are… but I didn’t make it home in time! Papa had left only the tin behind and had quite the pleased grin on his face. When I asked how they were he said “Oh you really missed out! They were great… the spice built as I ate them and they were very good… very spicy by the end… so good!”

These were actually spicy, so huge points for that. Great flavor, firm, and moist. It’s rare to find a tin with this amount of spice, that alone makes these worth it.
