Ramón Peña Clams (Almejas) in Brine 18/20, Gold Line

$47.50

These have a bit of a story. The white clams of conservas are all pretty pricey. I don’t like most of them, I mean I like them but I really had trouble rationalizing the cost. I was able to find a couple at a (relatively) lower price point that are good for adding to pasta dishes, or building into a tapas. But I had it in my head that what I wanted were the clams good enough to eat on their own, good enough to be the solo star, good enough that I could say with confidence, “These are worth it.” So I tried them all (by “all”, I mean every tin available in the US as of this writing).

These weren’t just the best of the bunch, they’re the only white clam I think is worth its price for a product you could eat with nothing more than garnish.
