This was one of the best tin of sardines that I’ve had the pleasure of sampling. First of all the box art lets you know that you’re in for something special. Cracking open the lid I was presented with a gorgeous display of perfectly packed little fish with a shimmering coating of oil on top. Each sardine was firm enough to come out of the tin without breaking apart and the texture was perfect, no spine crunch that I could detect. The seasoning was spot-on too.
I do have to say that even though I managed to polish off the entire tin on my own this is definitely one that is meant to be shared with friends, on a date night or as the centerpiece of a tinned seafood charcuterie board. If you want the perfect ideal of what a gourmet tin of sardinellas should be like, look no further than this tin. I plan on keeping this (or the 30/35) on hand for special occasions or to introduce someone who is intrigued about sardines.

We tried these Ramon Pena’s on toast with tomato, lemon and cilantro, and they were delish! On their own they needed a little bit of salt to help the sardine taste really pop, but boy were they good. Texture was on point, not mushy and held together when getting them on bread, will definitely get these again to keep on hand.

Dense, firm, holds up well to chopsticks yet yields easily when eaten without being mushy. The olive oil is rich and unctuous and combined with the salt it enhances the flavor of these little gems. An absolute must try!
