WOW. Wow, an easy 5 star tin at an amazing price … I’m speechless at how good these are. Instantly a favorite that will be on my shelf for as long as I can get them.

The smoke on these absolutely blew me away, the balance of smoky flavor is a hard thing to get right in canned seafood but they NAILED it. Texture was excellent, the fish held up nicely without being too soft or firm. High quality oil with great flavor and it doesn’t need a single thing added, perfect on its own. It’s even a bigger tin than most others so you certainly won’t be disappointed in quantity either.

Buy, buy, BUY. If you like smoked fish, this an absolute hidden gem.

These fish would make an excellent first can for someone who is hesitant to try fish. The smokiness really comes through on these, more so than any other can I’ve had. They also have a distinct saltiness that I really enjoy. The amount of fish that you get is a steal at the price. The fish themselves are tender without falling apart.
All in all, a quality can of fish, especially at this price.

Given that I never say “No” to smoked fish, I had to try these. These fish are an easy 5 star, must buy if you like smoked fish. Not only is the smoke flavor great, it doesn’t overpower the actual taste of the fish themselves. The portion size is good, especially at this price. The fish skin was nice, shiny, and intact. I would say these were a bit soft. They tended to split in half as I scooped them out of the oil. They are seasoned well (I ate them straight out of the tin) and the oil seems high quality. The oil would probably go great in a dish or dressing, but you could easily enjoy it by dipping a bit of crusty bread. I would have given these 4/5 if it wasn’t for the description “tails-on and a bit bristly”. The tail and insides had some mild-but-distinctive crunchiness to them that might be off-putting to some folks that don’t regularly eat tinned fish.

Overall, super enjoyable to eat. They really scratch that “smoked fish” itch with a great depth of flavor.

For the price these are an amazing tin to start with and then always keep stocked. They have the same quality, quantity, and flavor of tins twice as expensive. While they are smoked, the smoke flavor is light so they are enjoyable even when not in the mood for the smokiness. The saltiness is the same level as the smoke, light.

These are beautifully packaged but delicate and the tails slightly firm so keep that in mind if trying to keep them whole when serving. I ended up trimming the tails on the rest after having a few but that is just my preference. Definitely recommend.

As advertised, they are very smoky. For me, it was too much– the fish are good but I felt the smoke flavor overpowered everything else. If you love smoke this may be a fit, though. I could also see using these as part of a dish (fried rice?) where it would get a bit more diluted.

This is a fantastic value tin, so many lovely smoked little sprats crammed into one tin! Flavor wise these were delicious, nice and smokey. Ate them with crusty sourdough, a dill crème fraiche and some pickled red onions. A friend and I split the tin and were quite full when we were done. I do think I favor the Fangst sprats over these, however at $3.50 a tin these are hard to beat.

Five stars. Will most likely always add these to any order. My wife loves fish but was not into the idea of eating tinned fish until she had these. I would recommend these to anyone even remotely interested in trying out tinned fish.

I love Riga sprats. They are good in salad, or on crackers. Try these if you haven’t before give them a try.

Holy smokes, I love these. I think they were actually my favorite out of the variety of sprats I ordered. The tails can be a tad poky, but otherwise very quality fish for the price. These are very smoky, but not in a bad way. They never taste bitter or like soot. With a little spread cheese these kind of taste like a nice slice of smoked brisket. I’m not sure I would eat these plain out of the can, the smoke may become overwhelming. 5/5

Excellent tin of sprats for the price. Noticeable smoked flavor that takes center stage but doesn’t overpower the fish. Speaking of the sprats, they are nicely packed and came out of the tin easily. The tails are rather firm but not as bristly compared to other Latvian brands I’ve had.
Think I prefer the Belveder tin a little bit more but the Riga Gold is very good also.

These are AMAZING. Full stop. Then you add in the fact that they are only $3.50?? Ridiculously good. The portion size is also huge!! I can get two decent meals out of this tin. The texture is perfect, these are such a wonderful staple to have in your pantry.

The smokiest fish I have tried yet, this taste is the main event here. Per Dan’s suggestion to pair with a spreadable cheese and fresh herbs, this pairs well and needs a strong counterpoint to balance the smokiness. The tails have the right amount of bite and the bodies are soft. If not for the spine holding the fish together, removing them from the tin would nearly always break the fish apart. The oil is disappointing, adds nothing to the fish, olive oil would be a welcome improvement for me. The tin is large, not quite two normal servings (the tin says two servings but each one is a smaller portion than a typical sardine tin) and the beefy can proved strong enough I could not remove the lid fully. If you have an injured hand, have someone around who can help open this guy.

Huge can for a great price. It is absolutely packed with the most aesthetically pleasing golden fish in a “criss cross” pattern. The fish themselves were delicious from the salt and richness of the oil. I ate these with toasted sourdough with a dash of Nando’s peri peri sauce.

I absolutely loved these and am going to have these permanently stocked. Rich smoke flavor, instantly reminded me of the barbecue I grew up eating in the southeastern US. Honestly I would take these over a lot of BBQ I’ve had since moving north. And it comes in a can! I didn’t mind the tails at all, they’re barely noticeable once you’re chewing on them. Good texture and size. I had no problem eating these straight from the can but the smoke flavor could hold up to just about any preparation you wanted. At 3.50 I think this has to be one of the best value tins out there.

As soon as I saw some of reviews stating these were “too much” on the smoke, I knew they’d be something I would enjoy. I was not disappointed. These have a rich, full smoky flavor. You get a whiff as soon as you open the can. Beautifully packed with clear oil. These are a bargain, and a real treat. For comparison, I find them similarly smoky to many cans of smoked oysters, so definitely on the high side. My only minor quibble was the tails were a bit bristly for me. I trimmed them off on some of the larger specimens. These will definitely be in my next order.

An amazing value – so many sardines packed into this can! The smoke aroma does hit you but I personally enjoyed it. Plenty of sardines to share 🙂 I would say you do need to pair it with something to counteract the smokiness – I put them on a Ritz cracker with Boursin.

Cannot believe how good this was for the price! I ate these on toast with herbs, microgreens, lemon, and a smear of garlic cream cheese. Exceptional tin and an easy recommend.
