Rügenmackermato? Rügentomatackerel? How haven’t I tried this tin before. The brand’s high quality holds up (of course) and you’ll love this if you already love Rügen herring tins. It’d also be a great introductory tin to the brand.
The mackerel is extremely tender, flaky, moist. It reads as an ever-so-slightly firmer version of their herring but the textural difference is less than you’d expect. Absolutely no tough stringy bites and no mushy bites either – basically it’s spot on to what I want out of mackerel. The tomato sauce is thick, flavorful, and pretty darn legit as well … I only added a little salt and pepper and ate it straight from the tin at room temp. For this price, for this size of tin, at this quality? Pfft, it’s an easy buy (and rebuy).
