I was intrigued by the packaging of this brand, but these fell a bit short.

Large fish, smells of lemon when opened. Soft flesh, falls apart when removing from tin. Kind of mushy, possibly from the acid of the lemon. There is a small lemon slice in the bottom of the tin. Flavor-wise I found these a bit odd. The lemon flavor was in intense, like lemon essential oil, not to complex and almost artificial seeming. I’ll stick to fresh lemon on plain sardines in the future. This was my first tin from Sardinha, and I intent to try more.

My first Sardinha tin — I was a little disappointed but have a few others in stock that I’m excited to try, we’ll see how they stack up.

These were large, fatty ‘dines (3 pieces in my tin). I ate them on some homemade focaccia, which they were well suited too. The flesh fell apart easily coming out of the tin, which depending on your preference could be good or bad… they were certainly too large to eat in one bite!

I found the flavor underwhelming for the price point. Quite fishy, and didn’t feel fresh. There was also a noticeable lack of lemon flavor (especially compared to the lemon Bela’s I’ve enjoyed). Maybe I should’ve dressed them up more, but for a mid-range tin I don’t think I should have to.

    Packaging, however, is 10/10!

So far I’ve loved the Sardinha tins I’ve tried, but these didn’t quite hit the mark. Underwhelming lemon flavor, and a lot more scales than I’ve seen from this brand. Might have been a one off, can’t be sure.

Really nice sized fatty fish, but the lemon didn’t bring much to the party. Honestly, it was barely noticeable. The fish were great on their own though.

I was drawn to this tin because of the packaging and as part of my pursuit of the best tinned fish with lemon out there. I tried them on their own and also ate mine with a combination of toasted baguette, chili crisp, and fresh chives, and I found that the latter was a much better way to eat these sardines. The lemon flavor is far too subtle for my taste (though I prefer stronger flavors generally) and definitely needs to be elevated with some fresh lemon – at which point, not sure if that makes this a tin worth returning to, especially at a price point where there’s a ton of competition with other delicious tins. Not the best sardines with lemon out there, 6.5/10 for me.

I love Sardinha in general but unfortunately I have to agree with other reviewers here. I want my lemon flavor to be bold, acidic, and bright but this hits none of those attributes. You do get a little bit of lemon scent, nothing wrong there, but the lemon flavor on your tongue comes across as dark and muddy. I expected more salt and more tang out of this tin as Sardinha typically brings unique & big flavors … except for this tin and the red bell pepper version. Flavor aside, the sardine quality / texture / moisture was good as you’d expect for a Sardinha big chonker.

Don’t judge Sardinha by this tin. Try these instead … Sardinha sardines in spicy olive oil with pickles, Sardinha small sardines in olive oil, and Sardinha sardines in spicy tomato sauce.

I’m a fan of Sardinha and I love lemon with sardines, so I was really looking forward to this tin. But alas, I have to agree with other reviewers here – while the fish themselves were decent, the lemon flavor didn’t add much, and was barely noticeable. :'( The rest of Sardinha’s catalog is definitely worth exploring, but if you’re looking for a good can of lemony sardines, there are likely better options elsewhere for the price.
