Portuguese sardines at a price that can’t be beat. “Tasty, clean, refreshing.” is how the customer who recommended this to us described them. After we tried, we agreed. You don’t need to eat these with pasta, but you can. They’re also great on pizza.

Surprisingly different from the Sardinha “sardines in spicy tomato sauce” in more ways than spiciness. Felt like this was dialed back quite a bit on overall salt/seasoning as well as the thickness of the sauce. The upside is that these have typical Sardinha consistency and quality in general. The downside is that these lacked pop and ended up being a little forgettable. Texture and moisture were both above average for sure, but the tomato sauce is quite thin and there’s not much of it. Don’t get me wrong as I definitely still enjoyed it – Sardinha tins are always a good time – but I’d definitely choose the spicy tomato sauce version over this because of my preference for a more personality-forward tomato sauce. This tin would appeal to those of us who prefer their tomato sauce to be a supporting actor instead having it in a leading role.
