Description

Ingredients: Sardines (Sardina pilchardus): min 70%, Olive Oil: 29%, Chilli: 0.3%, Salt.

The terms “spiced” and “spicy” are used pretty much interchangeably in the tinned fish world, to mean two different things: with a hot pepper (or hot pepper flavor), and with cloves/bay/carrot/hot pepper. There are many examples of both terms being used to mean both things.

We are so frustrated by how widespread this confusing inconsistent usage is that we’ve gone through our entire product line to correct the incorrect ones such that our description of “spiced” or “spicy” will always indicate which it really is, regardless of the packaging. “Spicy” = with hot pepper flavor. “Spiced” = with the cloves/bay/carrot/hot pepper flavors.

Spicy nakey fishies! The first thing I noticed after cracking the can was how bright red the oil is compared to other spiced ‘dines I’ve had. It looks like the spice is more thoroughly distributed throughout the oil instead of relying on a piri piri or two. The pieces of fish are sizeable, meaty and clean. I didn’t expect them to be as soft as they are, but they’re not overly moist. A good middle ground it seems. Salt level is a little high, but I’m very happy with the spice level.

The oil is actually spicy! Very impressed. Don’t drain too much of the oil if you really want the spicy kick. A little salty, but still enjoyable if you don’t mind the sodium. If texture scares you in the tinned fish world, these are perfect! Smooth and tender with no gritty bones left behind. When I reorder this one, I’m imagining I’ll use it in a pasta with the canned oil as dressing to retain the lovely spice! If you drain this all the way, expect to only detect a hint of spice..

I usually go for skin on and bone on but wanted to try these given the spiciness described in others reviews. Worth the trade off! The flavor is superb, the spiciness different very present but also balanced with the flavor of the fish. I had them with some crusty bread but I think would be great with pasta as well. Would buy again!

Great! Good flavor all around (spice & fish). The oil is *chef’s kiss*. Will definitely order again!!

I wanted to try these based on the reviews regarding the spiciness and they didn’t disappoint – the pristine filets are beautifully packed in the tin with an oil that doesn’t skimp on heat.

This was my first time trying sardines! The flavor was great and the oil was a beautiful red hue. The fish were meaty and smooth, very similar in texture to the tinned mackerel fillets I’ve had but more fishy. I had these with Ritz crackers, some good creamy butter, and a sprinkling of garlic flaky salt. Each bite was delectable. Skinless boneless sardines are a great entryway into sardines if you are new.

This was the first tin of sardines I ever tried so I went with skinless/boneless. Very approachable, not super spicy but flavorful. I enjoyed with some pasta, basil & roma tomatoes. Will definitely return to these

I’m just starting on my ‘dine journey, and these were a perfect transition from other canned fish I’d grown up familiar with. The oil didn’t impart much flavor, but the heat absolutely crept in over the course of the can. Nothing intense, just appreciably spicy. Ate with sliced and toasted French bread. Beautiful little fish that made a hearty meal.
