Description

Sardines (Sardina pilchardus, 70.8%), Olive Oil (22.3%), Pickles (Carrot 2.5%, Cucumber 1.7%), Piri-piri (1.7%) and Salt

Preserves of 100% Portuguese production.

The excellence of our products is a result of the elevated quality of the fish and the traditional production method.

The fish is selected and prepared manually in order to achieve a product of superior quality.

The terms “spiced” and “spicy” are used pretty much interchangeably in the tinned fish world, to mean two different things: with a hot pepper (or hot pepper flavor), and with cloves/bay/carrot/hot pepper. There are many examples of both terms being used to mean both things.

We are so frustrated by how widespread this confusing inconsistent usage is that we’ve gone through our entire product line to correct the incorrect ones such that our description of “spiced” or “spicy” will always indicate which it really is, regardless of the packaging. “Spicy” = with hot pepper flavor. “Spiced” = with the cloves/bay/carrot/hot pepper flavors.

We’re calling this spicy because while there are pickles there are no cloves or bay.

STUNNING. The highest compliment I can give is … they’re so good, you’d never suspect they were skinless sardines if you were blindfolded. Absolutely unreal! I liked this even more than the Minerva limited edition skinless & boneless with lemon, and those blew me away. Minerva limited edition tins are RUNNING LAPS around their skinless & boneless sardine competition.

Texturally a medium, the flake was *way above average* compared to other skinless sardines (and average flake compared to skin-on). Moisture was *significantly above average* compared to other skinless tins (and maybe slightly above average even against skin-on competition). Seasoning here was awesome, salt level was right where I wanted it to be and the underlying spices were beautiful. Even got a thick slice of cucumber in there! Definitely is a spiced tin and not a spicy tin, but that’s what I’d prefer anyway. Heat level? Maybe a 2 out of 5? No complaints.

If you already love skinless & boneless, BUY THIS TIN. If you don’t love skinless & boneless but are open-minded to the possibility that it can actually be moist & delicious, BUY THIS TIN. Truly worth the price to try at least one time.
