Oh boy this Ferrigno brand keeps on delivering! These small sardines were no exception.

I managed to read the description on the can, and these claim to be baked for easier digestion. Regardless they’re a size 12-14 or so, and they were really nice. Very clean tasting. Firm though tender. Proving the point that the French really seem to deliver the best deens you can buy, and at this price you should pack your pantry full. Fantastic so…

    Go getcha some!

These are great small dines. They’re packed with flavor from the oil and have a perfect salt level. Really impressive flavor. The texture is on point too, where they don’t fall apart when being plucked from the can but they’re also not dry. The presentation is a bit rustic, though. They’re loosely packed and have some slight scales and scrapes. The biggest downside is that there aren’t more of them!

A winner, these caught me a little by surprise! I adore Ferrigno artwork tins but had lowered expectations since it didn’t include any additional ingredients under the fish. Well, that was a mistake. While these might not have extra flavor *added,* that certainly doesn’t mean that they don’t have a great flavor.

To be honest, I didn’t remember ordering this variety. I pulled it blindly from my box and ate it without looking to see which one it was. As I was eating, I kept on trying to determine what flavor I’d pulled but couldn’t … quite … place it. When finished, I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t a super subtle flavoring (looking at you, au Pastis!) but instead an impressively well-rounded plain tin. The quality of the fish felt like a half-step up from a regular Ferrigno, perhaps because the size of the sardines meant more moisture throughout? The sardines were a perfect firmness/texture that didn’t fall apart and I didn’t notice any scales. Even better, there was enough salt/acid in the tin that I felt zero need to add anything at all. Absolutely great for the price & quality. I’ll be ordering these again.

As always, some lovely tin art that seems to be Ferrigno’s trademark, and the lid is on the opposite side so you don’t destroy the image by opening the can. Popped the top to a fairly strong fishy odor to reveal eight small fish in oil. These were pretty fragile, so they won’t be your first choice for a fancy plate presentation. While they looked a bit beat up the taste was spot on. Milder than the smell, but strong enough to let you know you were eating sardines. They were well seasoned with just enough salt, and the olive oil is very lush. Looking to cut a bit of the oil, I shook on some unseasoned rice vinegar which really did the trick.

Slightly larger than I expected (eight in my tin), little beat up and ragged looking, but a good, clean taste. Solid choice.

8 small sardines in oil. Oil is good quality, rich and deeply colored. Sardines a little beat up, some scales visible. Wonderful texture firm and meaty. Scales are unnoticeable though there. Delicate flavor and low salt levels. Really great tin.
