3.5 stars out of 5. High quality, excellent texture, and a surprising amount of fish for the tin size. Primarily consisted of several big pieces of rockfish filet as opposed to smaller bits. Fish was not dry in any way, half bouncy and half flaky on each bite.
The sauce has a high quality soy flavor and was a little sweeter than I expected … this isn’t a can that necessarily I’d eat by itself again. It begs for rice and/or some other sort of accoutrement to balance out & compliment the delicate soy flavor. The description mentions wasabi but I didn’t detect any (I probably should have added some). This tin is really for the type of person who is ready to use this ingredient as part of a larger dish.

I found this to be more salty than sweet. That may be because I have become accustomed to the soy sauce in tinned fish being shoyu. The fish itself was good, and both times I’ve had it, I mixed it in rice with a furikake sprinkle. After the first time, I decided to try it again and see whether adding my favorite shoyu would help to counteract the saltiness. It seemed to balance out the flavor.

Definitely get a good amount in the tin. I agree that it is more salty than sweet and this would go better with rice for sure. I had it with crackers and found it didn’t totally go together as this had a strong flavor of just soy sauce. I was hoping for it to be sweeter, so I would try it with rice and vegetables next time for a meal.

We were a bit disappointed with this one. Felt like it had a weirdly strong metallic taste that we couldn’t get past which was a bummer considering it’s a spendier tin.

I’m reviewing these with my tasting partner, my nine year old son. I agree with the other reviews that indicate there is a surprising amount of fish in the tin for the size of the container. The fish is more salty than sweet but very good. The texture is much firmer than I expected. I liked this tin and would purchase again.
My son’s comments: this is good. It’s got a funny texture for fish, more like the octopus. I liked the texture and it was good! It was very good!
