3.5 stars out of 5. High quality, excellent texture, and a surprising amount of fish for the tin size. Primarily consisted of several big pieces of rockfish filet as opposed to smaller bits. Fish was not dry in any way, half bouncy and half flaky on each bite.

The sauce has a high quality soy flavor and was a little sweeter than I expected … this isn’t a can that necessarily I’d eat by itself again. It begs for rice and/or some other sort of accoutrement to balance out & compliment the delicate soy flavor. The description mentions wasabi but I didn’t detect any (I probably should have added some). This tin is really for the type of person who is ready to use this ingredient as part of a larger dish.

I found this to be more salty than sweet. That may be because I have become accustomed to the soy sauce in tinned fish being shoyu. The fish itself was good, and both times I’ve had it, I mixed it in rice with a furikake sprinkle. After the first time, I decided to try it again and see whether adding my favorite shoyu would help to counteract the saltiness. It seemed to balance out the flavor.

Definitely get a good amount in the tin. I agree that it is more salty than sweet and this would go better with rice for sure. I had it with crackers and found it didn’t totally go together as this had a strong flavor of just soy sauce. I was hoping for it to be sweeter, so I would try it with rice and vegetables next time for a meal.

    1.5⭐️/5⭐️

We were a bit disappointed with this one. Felt like it had a weirdly strong metallic taste that we couldn’t get past which was a bummer considering it’s a spendier tin.

I’m reviewing these with my tasting partner, my nine year old son. I agree with the other reviews that indicate there is a surprising amount of fish in the tin for the size of the container. The fish is more salty than sweet but very good. The texture is much firmer than I expected. I liked this tin and would purchase again.

My son’s comments: this is good. It’s got a funny texture for fish, more like the octopus. I liked the texture and it was good! It was very good!

I had been wanting to try Tiny Fish Co due to their cute packaging and their unique flavors. I finally got around to it and I am sad to say I’m extremely disappointed. There are some things I like but overall, I’d give this a pass, especially for the price.

I’ll start with the positives: the packaging is fun, colorful, and cute. I like all the illustrations on the box. The tin is easy to open and it comes with a plastic lid to use with the can if you have any leftovers. I’ve never seen a tin come with a lid before so this was seriously so cool and I love the idea! However, it’s a little silly in this instance because the tin is such a small portion, I couldn’t see myself ever having a need for the lid because I would never have leftovers at this portion size. I also like the unique flavors and creative ideas being done with the fish, it’s something different.

The negatives: I really did not like the taste of this. The rockfish is very dark colored, I imagine from the soy sauce, but it causes the fish to look really unappetizing and unappealing. I tried a bite plain and over rice and the flavor did not give the impression of sweet soy sauce, it had an unexpected taste that I did not enjoy. I agree with the previous reviewer who mentioned it being metallic, it was something strong and really off putting to me… I couldn’t finish it over rice because the more I ate it, the worse it tasted. It’s safe to say I won’t be buying this tin again and wouldn’t recommend it to others.
