A little disappointed with this tin. We’ve had good luck with other Berthe products, but these were underwhelming. Our tin contained three beautifully packed sardines. They were typical of Portuguese sardines. However, there were a lot of scales. Additionally, the fish were very soft – not quite mushy, but too soft for my taste. Otherwise, they tasted fine and were quite beautiful to look at. Maybe my expectations were too high due to the Berthe brand.

Solid tin and while my jaw didn’t drop, I’m still happy to have tried it. Reminds me of Matiz sardines – these fillets are large, extremely soft (but not mushy), and extremely moist. Perhaps a little underseasoned as well and they will definitely try to fall apart on you if you’re using chopsticks. If you’re looking for a nice ‘regular’ Portuguese sardine in olive oil, I’d give the edge to Sardinha instead as the slightly firmer texture is my personal preference … but if you don’t try *every tin* that you possibly can, you’re doing it wrong!
