I really loved this tin and will be adding to each order going forward. The sauce was delicious and was a great balance of olive oil, tomato and basil. I was concerned the basil would be overwhelming and it was not. This was perfect with some crusty bread. I sopped up all the sauce, which I usually don’t do. The sardines were still the star of the show. They had a firm texture and the the flavor was exactly what I was hoping for with no fishy aftertaste. If you like sardines in tomato sauce, I wholeheartedly recommend.

This is a perfect pasta pairing for sure. Not my first rodeo with sardines and tomato sauce, but definitely one of the better ones. Some tins are all sauce and no oil, which I like sometimes, and others are almost all oil and not much sauce. This had a nice balance and I appreciated the presence of the basil.

For preparation, I wanted to pair this with pasta, for obvious reasons. I had two other tins that I had been saving for a pasta night as well and decided that all 3 would make a fantastic sauce. The other two tins were Ferrigno La Bonne Mer Sardines in Butter with Persillade (Garlic and Parsley). I was correct that the tomato/basil/oil paired fantastically with the ink/butter of the other tins to make an epic pasta sauce with minimal effort. Just tossed all of the three tins’ contents into a pan after tasting each individually, mixed it together and warmed it up while cooking the pasta.

For the pasta, I chose spinach/cheese ravioli (my favorite for pairing with seafood tins) and my partner chose farfalle (bow-ties). I also topped mine with a bit of parmesan and some Calabrian chile pepperflakes. I tried some of hers and I think the spinach/cheese ravioli was definitely the superior choice. Towards the end of the meal, I soaked up the excess sauce with some nice warm multigrain Tuscany bread from my local bakery.

It made for an overall great meal, but honestly the cuttlefish and ink really stole the show and I’d like to try this tin again by itself (but still with pasta and/or bread). For a pasta next time I think I would lean into the tomato sauce direction and try to mimic the existing sauce to make a bit more of it and maybe just stick with something simple like spaghetti to really let the sardines shine.

WOW. Decadent and rich. Came across more as “olive oil sauce with tomato” rather than “tomato sauce” … and I mean that in the best way. Almost as if in a completely new category of its own! Truly a fatty flavor bomb with an ideal level of seasoning. The fish had perfect medium firmness with a great flake and better-than-average moisture. Nutrition info on the back seems to support that they went heavy on the oil, as does the visual inside the tin (semi-transparent red liquid). But again, it’s great. Unlike any tomato sardine tin I’ve had before. It’s easily in my top 5 tomato sardines and could even be top 3 … highly, highly recommend this one for a treat.

Received 2 tins of this today and had to try. This has to be the best sardine and tomato sauce on the market. I loved Pollastri before, this is even better. I like the sweetness of the sauce and the texture of the fish. Wish I had ordered more. A really outstanding product
