I bought these not really knowing what to expect, but these fellas were really good. They’re pretty much the exact same size and style of large sardines/pilchards, with 4 mackerels tightly packed into the tin that I had.
My favorite part was definitely the texture, as they were very firm – more firm than any other pilchards I’ve tried. I wouldn’t say these were dry, but, to compare, they were a little dryer compared to what I experience with sardines. Otherwise, I thought that they were seasoned well, and the oil only added to the flavor.
At this price point, I have nothing to complain about. If you like mackerel or are looking for a slight change of pace from sardines, check these out!

I’m on a huge mackerel binge, and was really looking forward to this tin. I’m used to mackerel fillets, but as the other viewer said, these were whole and very similar in size and shape to pilchards. These were really outstanding! The fish were beautiful with nice, shiny skin, just glistening, beckoning to me.

They had a great texture. I was initially nervous about the bones, the first one I grabbed had a bit of spine sticking out of the fish, but they just melted, completely unnoticeable. I’ve now decisively conquered my fish bone anxiety, and am looking forward to a beautiful new world of delicious fish to devour.

Had these straight out of the tin with some nice, crusty bread. They were absolutely delicious. Of all the tins I’ve had so far, I’m not sure I’d say the oil made a noticeable difference in most, but this olive oil was superb and added quite a bit. I sopped every bit up with bread afterwards. Cannot rave about these enough, get you a tin!

Our tin contained three of the most beautiful fish we’ve had with striped blue-gray iridescent skin. As others have noted the texture is very pleasant and although the bones and spine look large, they are not noticeable at all when eating them. The flavor is relatively mild and distinctive. They were terrific with our secret blend of Espinaler and Tabasco sauces. At this price point, everyone should try them. We’ll definitely be ordering again. Based on the initial tasting, this tin is one of my favorites at an price.

This was an absolute banger of a mackerel tin! I had three fish with a beautiful striped blueish skin. They are much firmer than a typical pilchard and the spines are larger too – that said I didn’t notice the bones since I placed them on toast. The flavor was meaty but a bit more milder than sardine. The olive oil was of high quality too – I drizzled some over the mackerel and toast and it was fabulous!
If you’ve had the Nuri Spiced Small Mackerel tin and loved it please take it upon yourself to try this tin – it’s that level of quality without the added spices. And the price point is great for what you get.

Beeeeeautiful change of pace. These mackerel are pilchard-sized with a medium-firm texture that flakes beautifully in your mouth. Moisture level was above average too. If you’re generally disappointed in mackerel being too dry, then look no further … these will change your mind. I thought these could use a little more salt but that’s easy to resolve. Especially at this price, it’s very easy to recommend this tin.

I’m starting to realize that mackerel are my favorite tinned fish. These were really good, and at this price point, I will be making it a regular buy. The fish had an almost buttery texture. They were solid pieces, came right out of the tin easily. We had them on crackers with some pickled peppers for an easy lunch. These are a great foundation to jazz up with condiments. The presentation in the tin was not remarkable. The skins were a little dinged up, but not an issue at this price. Any bones we didn’t want were easily removed. Will get again.
