These were great! The spice is just enough to have a hint of a tingle in your mouth without it being overwhelming. Overall a nice, clean tin of mackerel at only $6. Great value for the price and flavor provided.

Beautifully defined mackerel filets which I’m coming to realize go hand in hand with some characteristic dryness. The organic oil was beautiful. Super flavorful & just a touch of heat. Unfortunately, the oil hadn’t permeated the fish much. Would aging the can give the flesh more of a chance of thorough absorption? Is that how that works? Or is dry fish only a symptom of how they’re handled in the cooking process? Still learning.
I liked this tin fine & as a farmer am partial to organic certifications in the industrial products that I garnish my life with – but much prefer the Nuri Spiced whole mackerel for some mack with a bit of heat at a similar price.

These. Were. Wonderful! I had this tin just a day after having a can of the quite similar Nuri Spiced Mackerel in Olive Oil, and these were quite comparable. I almost feel blasphemous saying this, but I liked these just a bit more. Starting with apparent, these look wonderful in the tin. Nice orange color on the oil, and the fish are neatly arrayed, and they actually have very pretty skin, which seems harder to find in mackerel as compared to sardines. Much like the Nuris, the spiced oil is delicious, I greatly enjoyed eating these with an English muffin, that I could use to soak up that oil. As for the fish themselves, while like other mackerel, they are on the stiff/dry side, I found them to be a touch softer than other mackerel I’ve tried. The flavor is very mild, similar to other mackerel, with most of the flavor coming from the oil. Lastly, I quite liked the peppers/veggies at the bottom of the tin, appearance wise they were much more mushy/undefined as compared to the vegetables you find in the Nuris, however, the flavor on them was phenomenal, and really elevated the whole experience, definitely a can to enjoy to the last drop. I’ll definitely be purchasing these again.

Overall, a solid tin of mackerel that’s worth trying on your mackerel journey. Was hoping for a little more chili presence, I’d put these at a 2 out of 5 on the spiciness scale. Texture and moisture was average for tinned mackerel, which means that it is more like tuna than I’d hoped. While I wouldn’t call the fillets dry, they do have less moisture than King Oscar mackerel. Doesn’t have the Patagonia mackerel chew (that’s a good thing in my book). I really appreciated the bits of peppers and such at the bottom of the tin as they contributed quite a boost to each bite. While I enjoyed this in general and love the Ferrigno brand, I do think that the Ocean’s jalapeno mackerel remains my top option when I want a little bit of spicy in my mackerel.

This is a great tin! The oil infuses the fish with some spice and when you get to the bottom of the tin you find bright red slices of peppers which I loved. The fish was meaty and firm, and a bit dry, but I loved the flavor. I had it with sourdough bread and crackers, butter, and romesco sauce.

Beefy fillets–seriously hulking, with just two snugged into the can–with firm, tasty flesh. Is there another tin that touts organic produce in the mix? If there is, I’ve missed it so far, but it certainly caught my eye here–why not go organic when it’s available? I’ll buy these again if only to vote with my wallet on that front.
On my never-ending quest for spicier spiced tins, I had high hopes for a chili bite, but alas these are fairly tame, right down the middle with other European labels. Nothing wrong, they do what they do, but if anyone has their ears, I’d let them know that America is a big market with a big appetite for super-spiced products–I’m looking at you Ghost Pepper Everything.

Good price for a high quality tin of mackerel. Meaty, skin-on fillets were tightly packed and had a nice yielding chew—not as dry as many other mackerel fillets. Gentle heat that is terrific with a daub of Kewpie and a silver of pickled onion. Be sure to scoop out all the pepper and onion bits at the bottom.
