The curry sauce is truly great, the star of the show. The depth, spice, seasoning is fantastic and the sauce is thick enough to easily coat each bite. It’s hard to imagine a tinned curry sauce that’s better than this one, quite honestly! The mackerel itself is on the dry & firm side, but you don’t notice it as much because of the abundance of that spectacular sauce. I’d call the fillet texture a 4 out of 5 (where 5 is very firm) and moisture as a 4 out of 5 as well (where 5 is quite dry). It’s not chewy like Patagonia, it’s not flaky – it’s more the type of mackerel that shreds upon chewing. I ate it straight from the tin at room temp and really enjoyed the experience overall. If you warm this up, pour it over rice without wasting a single drop of that sauce then you will certainly have great time. The price is high but if you are a big fan of curry sauce … you absolutely MUST try this tin.

I warmed this tin up by letting it sit in some hot water for a couple minutes, which seemed to do the trick, and then poured it over some lentils. It was delicious. The sauce is a great consistency, just right. The fish was fairly firm but was still easily cut into smaller pieces with a fork. Nice firmness. The flavor was good with nice balance and complemented the fish well. I’m a wimp when it comes to spice, and while I wouldn’t say this was spicy, I did notice a teeny bit of heat towards the end of the meal. Overall though, I liked this tin and it was tasty. I would recommend it if you like curry and mackerel!

This one was wonderful! I’ve never had a tin with curry sauce before but this didn’t disappoint. I heated up the tin over the store briefly to warm it up, then dumped the whole thing over some coconut rice and had with a side of pickled beets. Really, really delish

My only other experience with a creamy sauce in a tin of fish was the Les Mouettes mackerel with mustard and creme fraiche, which was very much a 0/10 experience for me (YMMV!). This tin on the other hand, was novel and fun, savory and rich—a great change of pace from my usual fare. The curry has a soft golden hue and a super gentle heat. The fillets are firm with a slight fishiness. I ate this straight out of the tin and found myself scooping up the rest of the sauce with seed crackers, but as others said, it would probably be best warmed and served over rice or similar. At this price point and my personal tastes, I might not order it again, but it was a lovely little lunch and I’ definitely glad I tried it.

This tin was delicious. As I like most of my saucy fishies, I heated it over rice. The mackerel itself was a bit salty and lemony for me, but the curry sauce made up for it. The rice helped balance that out as well. I might try again over some naan!
