Three large firm meaty pilchards in a mild tomato sauce.

The sauce has a slight essence of ocean, which is pleasant in that it brings back days spent fishing on Cape Cod in my youth, but it’s fairly nondescript overall. I doctored it up with some homemade Puttanesca sauce to give it more zing, and served it and the fish diced in chunks over a bed of turmeric couscous. The fish have a nice chew. They would hold up well (not fall apart) tossed in a pasta sauce. They’re not fishy or scaly. They’re good, typical Portuguese sardines, but honestly this product is probably not something I’d readily seek out again. There’s no wow factor.

4.2 fish out of five ????????????????2/10
