These are made with the true, authentic Atlantic sardine, Sardina pilchardus, according to the Portuguese tradicional method. Sardines are selected and prepared by hand, one by one, and are pre-cooked in steam, only being canned after this process and prepared with different sauces.

These were tasty! I don’t recall the exact amount of filets in the tin but I think it was maybe three or four. Generous amount of tomato sauce. Flavor was mild, a tad fishy at times, but not overpowering. The tomato tasted delicious and added a little something extra. Overall a simple tin but well executed and tasted high quality. I’d buy it again.

The sauce was a nice change from the typical olive oil. The fish were in great condition. Firm and intact. It’s impressive how someone can debone these little fish yet keep the shape. Ate them on toasted baguette. Reasonably priced, they are a great option if you want to try something a little different.
