Palirria Gigantes White Beans in Tomato Sauce

$6.00

The first product we tried from Palirria, and the reason we wanted to try their other products (and we’re glad we did, their dolmas are exceptional). You won’t believe food this good comes from a can. Big, buttery, creamy white beans in a savory tomato sauce that’s just perfect on its own, gently warmed, but really shines when mixed with leftover rice and topped with your favorite tin of plain fish. We love boneless skinless mackerel fillets, but, you do you.

10 oz tin.

These creamy white Gigante beans, (also known as large Butter Beans or Lima Beans) are truly delicious. They’re bathed in a delectable tomato sauce flavored with a hint of dill. Honestly, I didn’t think these beans would be as good as they are. It’s rare that I find a product that doesn’t need some form of amendment regarding flavor. I’m always adding spices, hot sauce, salt, pepper, garlic, harissa, sugar, etc., to whatever I’m cooking, but not with these. These beans hit all the right flavor notes. (They’re high in fiber as well.)

I served these Gigantes slightly warmed with a crusty baguette and some garfish in spiced olive oil. The garfish were on the salty side, but eaten with the beans the flavors blended perfectly. Highly recommended.

5 fish out of five ????????????????????

Pretty tasty beans! I was the dork friend who brought canned fish and sides to the New Year party but it went over pretty well. Lots of people like these beans and some people even tried some new fish things so, good times. Good texture match with squid!

I love the idea of canned beans but find the plain/unseasoned kinds need too much work to make them palatable. This had great flavors just out of the can and all I had to do was warm it up a bit. You could eat this by itself in a pinch, but I had the best experience pairing it with the Patagonia Roasted Garlic Spanish White Anchovies over white rice. It was the perfect pantry meal.

This has got to be one of the best canned beans that I ever had the pleasure of sampling. First of all these really are gigantic beans, which I really like. The texture of the beans were soft and creamy and the sauce was excellent with background notes of dill and paprika.
I wound eating the entire can at room temperature, it was that good. Next time I’ll have to warm this up, put over some rice with either some mackerel or tomato sardines.
