Eating this side-by-side with the regular Pollastrini tin revealed two main things: (1) Pollastrini is an underrated brand that should get more love, and (2) there really is something to this vintage sardine concept.

The vintage tin presented itself as slightly less salty and less fruity than the regular, with a deeper flavor overall. Texturally, the vintage sardines had a brilliant medium density with less flake than the regular tin (which I’d call medium-soft density) … you get the sense that the vintage tin is starting to migrate more into garfish texture. Moisture levels were pretty comparable between the two, making this vintage tin a real standout for fish fans who love that slightly more dense texture without compromising any moisture whatsoever.

I absolutely loved this tin. Flavor was deep, rich, and indeed more complex than the regular Pollastrini. Truly worthwhile. Are they *better* than the regular version? It’s almost a toss-up and I think my answer would fluctuate based on the day. Safe to say that I walk away impressed and I recommend you give this a try.
