There’s very little in this world of tinned fish that we love as a quick and easy snack or impromptu nibbly with surprise drop over guests than smoked mussels. These are lightly smoked, and go perfectly with a Ritz and some softened cream cheese made bright by the addition of some freshly snipped green herb.

    Gigantic and beautiful but they were a little inconsistent overall – some mussels were creamy, some were grainy, some were chewy. When the texture was on point, then these were REALLY good. For the other 50% of the tin, the texture variance did detract a little from the experience. Perhaps I had a bit of bad luck here, as flavor was good in general with a pleasant light smoke. Adding a little bit of flaky salt and lemon gave these a nice boost and that’s how I’d recommend enjoying these. At this price, the textural inconsistency makes them harder to recommend over Patagonia/Cole’s (if you’re planning to eat them on their own). However, these would be absolutely perfect as part of a larger dish / preparation where you really want that ‘wow’ factor of a giant, beautiful mussel.
