Absolutely superb. The best small mackerel I have had. Upon opening the can, the smoky aroma immediately sets the stage for a delightful eating experience. The fish themselves are perfectly smoked, intensely redolent of the finest flavor of smoked seafood, though not overwhelmingly so. That flavor shines in each bite. Texture-wise, they are perfect; they flake easily with a touch of pressure, but stand up well to chewing and have a wonderful mouthfeel. I will be ordering these again.

This was my first time trying small mackerel. This tin had beautiful silvery fish, nice crunchy spines, and a light smoky flavor, all of which I really enjoyed. The only thing I did not love was the texture of the fish. The small mackerel was firm enough that it was slightly dry compared to other fish that I have tried, though this experience might be limited to just the tin that I received.

At first, I was surprised and even a little put off by how firm these were—I had trouble breaking the pieces up with chopsticks—but by the end of the tin I was converted and loved the bite and chewiness. The texture almost felt closer to a dried or salted fish product than a typical tinned fish in oil. In the end, a great smoky fishy salty tin from a favorite producer. I ate these straight from the tin but they seem super versatile and would be great with condiments or for cooking with.

3 very large, firm, and dense fishies in this tin. Real meaty, almost like ham. Smokiness was just right. Slightly dry yet moist? Really enjoyed this.
