The terms “spiced” and “spicy” are used pretty much interchangeably in the tinned fish world, to mean two different things: with a hot pepper (or hot pepper flavor), and with cloves/bay/carrot/hot pepper. There are many examples of both terms being used to mean both things.
We are so frustrated by how widespread this confusing inconsistent usage is that we’ve gone through our entire product line to correct the incorrect ones such that our description of “spiced” or “spicy” will always indicate which it really is, regardless of the packaging. “Spicy” = with hot pepper flavor. “Spiced” = with the cloves/bay/carrot/hot pepper flavors.
This particular tin is a bit of both, as it has the vegetables and the hot pepper but doesn’t have the bay and clove.

I tried these as my first step into the world of sardines and was delightfully surprised. I was expecting a fishy strong flavor and was hesitant to try them due to preconceived expectations, instead I tasted a nice mild flavor that was much better than I could ever have imagined. This was a stepping stone for me and I hope to expand on my choices of “dines” and work my way up to a bit more adventurous offerings. Thanks RTG!

A hell of a tin. Decently sized sardines, with a light fishy aroma but not pungent by any means. The oil was pleasantly spicy, and imparted a rich and smoky spiciness to the fish. I sautéed these with onion and garlic until heated through, and then served with a fried egg and chili oil on top of plain rice. An excellent value, and filling meal. Will be adding this to my regular sardine rotation.

This was my first time trying sardines and they exceeded my expectations. For the price point, it was even better! I love fish and spicy foods, so having the nice fishy flavor–not overwhelming in my opinion–with the added kick of the spiced olive oil was very good. My girlfriend and I had this as is for a late night snack and it sure hit the spot, with ten grams of protein for us both. Our tin came with a couple sliced carrots, a picked cucumber and a chili pepper. For the next tin, I hope to use the leftover spicy olive oil for cooking, such as adding it to rice to give it an extra kick or to a mediterranean salad dressing to spice it up a bit.

If you’re looking for value, look no further. These tins are a great entryway into the world of tinned fish, and the perfect pantry staple for the sardine connoisseur. The chili pepper and olive oil create a compelling flavor profile, perfectly pairing with rice, veggies, and other toppings. You can also enjoy them alone or with some crackers. Really pleasant texture. Looking forward to coming back to these.

King Oscar once again kills it for a very accessible price. I cut these up and made a pasta with garlic, spicy red pepper, arugula, fresh oregano, and topped with bread crumbs. If that sounds good, look up Gordon Ramsey’s Spaghetti with Chilli, Sardines, and Oregano. SO GOOD.

This wound up being one of my favorite King Oscar tins so far, second only to the Mediterranean mackerel. For reference, I ate Season’s Skinless/Boneless sardines for a few years before I finally decided to expand my tinned seafood horizons recently.
This tin reminded me of those days but sooo much better! The fish themselves are your typical skinless/boneless fillets – nice and firm with a hint of smoke. However the spices and veggies added really elevated it to a level that punches above its weight class. Nice heat to the chili and the carrot and pickle added complexities that reminded me a bit of Nuri but without the clove.
This is an awesome tin to introduce someone who wants to dip their toe into the world of sardines but is still nervous about skin, bones and that other “yucky” stuff. I don’t really eat much skinless/boneless these days but KO Spanish Style will be the one to reach for whenever that mood strikes.

This was my first foray into tinned fish and I thought it was delightful. A little too spicy for me straight, I’m definitely a wimp, but I mixed it with a spoonful of high quality mayo and it was perfect. Not overly fishy, the right spice level, nice texture. Already building my first order of things to try.

Oh man! If you’re prioritizing value, this tin simply can’t be beaten. Skinless and boneless, making this great for beginners. I lost this tin in my collection, discovering it almost one year after purchase. I’m convinced that the passed time only strengthened the flavors. Eating this straight from the tin for a quick lunch, my taste buds were overcome with the spice this tin offers. Not too spicy, but perfectly kicked up a notch. Add this to every order!!!

Absolute steal for $3.50! An amazing tin and one you should have plenty of. Great spice, delicious taste. Probably my favorite to date. Part of my second order with Dan. A welcoming, delicious surprise out of Morocco!

These are great, especially for the price. I ordered these to share with a friend who thinks bones are gross. (Weird, I know!) She is also is a spice-lover. These were perfect! Nice hit of heat, not overpowering, but you can definitely taste the spice. We ate them on crackers with cream cheese. I will order again for myself or to share with bone-adverse friends.
