Les Mouettes d’Arvor Sardines in EVOO with Basil and Thyme


Perfect for topping a salad, the addition of  basil  and thyme brightens the flavor of these sardines. Add a little lemon juice to the oil and you’ve got your salad dressing.

Ingredients: Sardines (Sardina pilchardus), extra virgin olive oil, basil, thyme, salt.

    Eating these as we speak.

    On opening, 3 large sardines and two medium sized in tin. Nice and intact with skin still in place.

    Oil looks nice, lots of herbs are floating… lots, more than expected but not in a bad way. Smell is pleasant, fresh and herby.

    First fish plain, not impressed but not bad. Fish are on the drier side with a little bit of a grainy texture. Herbs are good, although taste a little strong. Second fish seemed to be less dry…

    Moved on trying it different ways. Mustard is a good compliment as it adds some moisture and compliments the herbs well. Little slice of Bree didn’t add much and detracted. Little slice of Parmesan was fantastic with it, added some saltiness to the dense herb flavor.

    Best bite, little mustard, few capers, little parm sliver. Would have added thin slice onion but was lazy.

    Overall, wouldn’t buy again. But if your into a heavy herb flavor or maybe adding to a pasta, I’d say go for it.
