This tuna is nothing like the stuff you pick up at the grocery store, it’s so much more. The flavor of it is strong in the right way, it fills your mouth with even the smallest bite. The oil that it’s in tastes just like the tuna, so it can be used on salads or whatever else you can think to use tuna oil on. Since the flavor is so rich, I’d recommend eating it with some sort of carb, I use potatoes.

This tuna is awesome and at a low price point for the tuna selection here! Much higher quality than chain grocers offer and way more flavorful. The oil is incredibly rich and velvety as well! I regret not saving it. Overall a perfect entry level tuna can.

The fish was packed tightly and had to be broken up a bit to get it out of the tin. The tuna had a good, clean flavor and was well seasoned, though some may find it too salty. It had absorbed some of the olive oil, but being a fairly lean portion it still retained some of the dryness that one expects from tuna. The olive oil was pale but quite silky and made for a swell dipping sauce for the tuna. I didn’t even try any hot sauce with this, just merely flaked off pieces and swirled them around in the oil before popping in my mouth. The only accoutrement was a Cosmic Crisp apple which served as a good sweet and crisp contrast to the tuna. I think this might be a good entry level tin if you want to go beyond the standard grocery store tuna.

This is one of the best cans of tuna I’ve ever had. I enjoy it straight from the tin on top of some good bread (with a little salt) and using the crusts of the bread to dip into the flavorful olive oil. It makes for a super simple and satisfying light meal. This is a great price for such an outstanding can of tuna.

The Peña tuna had a clean, well-seasoned flavor with a mild aroma, though it was lean and retained some dryness despite the silky olive oil. The fish was tightly packed and needed breaking up, making the oil a good dipping sauce, paired nicely with a sweet apple. The tuna absorbed some of the olive oil, adding a touch of richness to the lean portion.

Ramon P. rises above, once again. The yellowtail is perfect, the oil is perfect, the can is salted perfectly. This ought to be used as a reference standard, the measuring stick, by which all straightforward (non-ventresca) yellowtail offerings are judged. It’s hard to excel or differentiate with this tuna, but Peña just does everything plainly and well with this can. How can this be the least expensive offering in the category here?
