A very yummy can of sardines. I ate them straight out of the can, gently warmed(just let the can sit in hot water).
They are large sardines, and yet the spine was nice and soft like what I would expect from a sprat. The skin was pretty on these too, not banged up at all. No scales on these. The flesh was pretty solid, almost bordering on soft, but not mushy by any means. I was able to take them out of the tin with chopsticks, only two of them breaking slightly in half.
The fish flavor of these are more mild than other similar-sized sardines I’ve tried. That said, the tomato sauce these are in is also mild, and so the fish and tomato flavors match the same intensity. The only other can of tomato sardines I’ve had are King Oscar’s (though those are sprats) and I would say the fish flavor is a bit more in those, and the tomato flavor is quite a bit more compared to these more gently flavored Flower sardines.
Overall, I really enjoyed this can, and will definitely be adding them to my daily lunch rotation!
