The term “hot” shouldn’t scare you away from these. The heat level is widely considered to be on the mild side. There is some heat present. Perhaps you’ve tried the spiced sardines and didn’t care for the pickled vegetables and the clove? These are for you.

Solid tin, but not quite as spicy as I was hoping for. I’d put these at 1.5 out of 5 in terms of heat. Giant fish with medium-soft texture, medium moisture (slightly less than most large sardines like this), relatively mild flavor that maybe was a touch underseasoned. Very similar to Magellan (also Portuguese) sardines except not as flavorful. While I wouldn’t personally recommend these over other varieties from Porthos, I did enjoy this tin overall. If you like big ol’ sardines from Portugal, then you should be adding these to your to-eat list.
