Please note that we classify based on Latin name of the species, as a result some items you may be seeking in “sprats” may be found in “sardines”. For example, King Oscar refers to their sprat products as “brisling sardines” but they are, in fact, sprats.

The terms “sardine” and “brisling” and “pilchard” are not precise, and what is meant depends on the region. Which is why we have elected to organize based on Latin name. We believe each of the products listed here are Sprattus sprattus, please correct us if we are mistaken.

For products made from Sardinus pilchardus, please see the Sardine category. Garfish, Anchovies, Small Mackerel and Horse Mackerel are other small fish which can be tinned like sardines and sprats.
